Level 739 - "Sands Of Desire"

Level 739 can be described as an infinite expanse of sandy white desert dunes, alternated by shallow pools and rivers of water. The climate of the level seems to be always sunny, with a clean, plumbeous sky often crossed by lonely clouds. This unchanging landscape creates an eerie sense of timelessness, affecting both the environment and those who traverse it.

My first shot at writing a Backrooms level and what brought me here. The inspiration came from images of the Lençóis Maranhenses National Park that I found while browsing Wikimedia Commons. It got a fair bit of traction and seems to be the my most appreciated original level by the community, but I still find it a bit repetitive in the narration blocks.

It's also the level that kickstarted an ongoing series that will contiue in Level 740 and beyond.

Work has always defined me: once, in the Frontrooms, it meant gridlocked traffic, office politics, and delivering things no one really cared about. But here, in the endless, rotting halls where the air hums with the weight of history and regret, work means something else. Every package I carry cuts through the isolation, every delivery a fragile tether holding this broken world together. It’s not just survival—it’s penance, a chance to leave something behind that matters. These walls have seen betrayal, desperation, and blood, but as long as I keep moving, maybe, just maybe, I can be the one to break the cycle. This is my purpose. This is my burden.

My second shot at writing a Backrooms level and a followup on the story of Level 739. In this case the inspiration was a bit more random, as here the place and worldbuilding behind it comes secondary to the story. It's better then the first one as I liked it more(while I have actully put less effort in it) and currently the place where the story stops.

I hope to get on it again soon.

During the darkest moments of your life, you might find yourself inside Level 306: a small, secluded cabin that rests within an endless expanse of snow-covered wilderness. Its walls, built from aged timber, give off a scent of pine, which mingles with a faint smell that may remind you of nostalgic memories from your past. The architecture here, you will notice, feels like it belongs to a bygone era of mountain retreats, the ones ever-present on the gentle slopes of the Italian Alps.

Posted during the 2024 promptcon contest at first, it got mixed reactions from its abrupt tonal shifts and problems on wording. I then decided to rewrite it, resulting in a narrative second person narration mixed with an half-clinical tone that talks directly to the reader.

At the time I got inspired by my freplace, and the sensations that it gave me when I was little during here. From this base, I wanted to give this place more than just a "basic safe level" vibe, bringing me to add [Entity 140|Blanche] to the story after LimDoc's advice. In general I must say that I like the vibe I created with the level, and hope the readers can like it too.

When you first enter the Backrooms, one of the most common entities you can encounter are Deathmoths. Their debated origin as a result of Liminal Echo, or as a mere product of evolution, has made them a great subject of heavy research.

My first rewrite and page to get greenlit. I found the interest in rewriting the page after it got trimmed, as I found the basic statements found inside a good ground fro worldbuilding. I cannot that enough the critics who helped me bring the page to life.

Comically enough, the page came out very differently from my rewrite application.

Dipotassium octaoxoiron sulfide, commonly known as Firesalt, is a compound characterized by a significant thermal reactivity and a distinctive orange coloration. The object's structure, composition, and stability vary based on the formation method and the presence of mineral impurities, which also play a critical role in determining its overall behavior. Firesalt's various properties, paired with its multiple unique applications, make it one of the most important and useful known objects of the Backrooms as a whole.

My second rewrite and page to get greenlit. At the start it was going to have a whole backstory behind it involving various groups, but after some rounds of crit the story part got split from the rewrite. Quite proud about this, did quite a bit of research.

Object 46 - "No-clipping Snow Globes"

No-clipping Snow Globes are a very rare yet quite useful object. Instances of Object 46 present themselves as glass spheres attached to a plinth either made of wood, or plastic. Inside the object, recreations of various kinds of backgrounds and buildings are found, displaying Backrooms locations often surrounded by Christmas-themed decorations and conifers. If shaken, the globe will become filled with a fine, white dust that resembles real-world snow.

Object I-4 is a collective name used for a large range of foods more commonly referred to as Talents in a Box. They can be used as a food or, in certain departments of the M.E.G., as a way to train recruits.

The Backrooms Nonaligned Trade Group, colloquially known as the B.N.T.G., is an organization of affiliated bases, economic institutions, and regulatory agencies dedicated to the goal of "Peace through Prosperity". With a focus on establishing a centralized trade network, our group has gathered a vast wealth of supplies, contacts, and information otherwise unavailable to most other factions. Our mantra extends to all aspects of the B.N.T.G. as we use this stockpile of resources and knowledge to not only increase the living conditions of our affiliates but also secure peace through trade incentives with most major groups within the Backrooms.

This is a big one. Honestly at the start I didn't think the original owner of the group would let us work on the rewrite, but in the end it worked out. I did quite a bit of research for this page, as I wrote the Trader's Keep section, the Other Bases section and the Trade Partners section. So I had to go throught plenty of pages to select the right ones who needed to be referenced and the ones who needed a whole section about them. I'm quite happy with the result, and I hope in the future to give the group even more development.
