Your footsteps echo against the hardwood floor of the Cygnus Archive. Comfortable chairs, bookshelves, the ever-present smell of cinnamon… it's been a while since you've felt at peace. This is far from your first visit to the Archive— escaping the brutalist architecture of the greater Backrooms was just the cherry on top.

As you make your way to the end of the bookshelves, a certain title catches your eye, seemingly out of place in the long rows of classical fiction. If it were any other title, you probably would have paid it no mind, but this was simply too intriguing to pass up.

"Hello, dear." A voice behind you speaks up. "What literary adventure have you chosen today?"

You turn around, facing none other than the curator herself, Blanche Von Haderach. You allow yourself a polite smile as you respond.

"Oh… nothing much. I just saw something that looked a bit interesting, that's all."

"Hmm… May I see?" Blanche asks. You oblige, showing her the book title: 'Off Limits: The Only Banned Game in Level 389.'

Blanche smiles widely. "Ah! One of my favorites— quite the entertaining read! I still remember when Tom first told me the story years ago…"

You raise an eyebrow. "You mean this actually happened? I thought I was in the classical fiction section!"

Blanche gives a small laugh. "No dear, you're currently selecting novels based upon the memories of yours truly."

You look down at the book in your hands. You suppose it should have been obvious with such a specific title.

"Why don't you join me in the main room for some tea? I can read along with you, if you like. It has been almost forever since I've seen this one…"

You already know that Blanche won't take "no" for an option— the vibe in the air is oh so similar to your days back at Grandma's house, when you would try to decline her offer of cookies. Oh well, you were here for a break, and nothing gets more laid-back than one-on-one time with the archivist herself.

Sensing your decision, Blanche smiles and snaps her fingers. The two of you are transported to a small table in the kitchen, the smell of mint wafting from the teacup in front of you making you feel at ease.

You place the open book in the middle of the table.

"Ah, there we are. Let's begin…"

It all started on a slow day in Level 389, when the Game Master was feeling particularly bored...
