The Backrooms Nonaligned Trade Group
"Peace through Prosperity"
What is the B.N.T.G.?
The Backrooms Nonaligned Trade Group, colloquially known as the B.N.T.G., is an organization of affiliated bases, economic institutions, and regulatory agencies dedicated to the goal of "Peace through Prosperity". With a focus on establishing a centralized trade network, our group has gathered a vast wealth of supplies, contacts, and information otherwise unavailable to most other factions. Our mantra extends to all aspects of the B.N.T.G. as we use this stockpile of resources and knowledge to not only increase the living conditions of our affiliates but also secure peace through trade incentives with most major groups within the Backrooms.
Since its founding, the B.N.T.G. has created infrastructure for the manufacturing of goods, agriculture, and the exchange of services, forming a pseudo-economy used by most wanderers in one way or another. Our organization has a strict neutrality doctrine pertaining to the affairs of other groups and will only resort to open conflict when provoked. In the years since our formation, the B.N.T.G. has used these methods to establish a previously unobtainable level of normalcy and comfort for its members and the wanderers they protect while solidifying ourselves as the predominant trade consortium.
History
We were formed during an intense period of inner turmoil within the ranks of the M.E.G., when everyone from its top operatives to its lowest newbies was conflicted on even the most basic of decisions. Primarily, these fatal indecisions were to do with the recently discovered Crimson Forest and the power-hungry religious cult known as the Church of the Veiled. The main death that was the catalyst of our creation was Ailsa Davis, who was murdered by the cult directly.
Arthur Mellon, her brother, was enraged that the M.E.G.'s lack of direction got so many people needlessly murdered. He, alongside a woman called Diana Stewards, who also faced great loss and permanent disability from the same indecision, rallied for order within their group. When the order didn't come, they seceded with open-minded followers.
From the first days of our existence, with our collaboration with Emstable that aided in creating Office Space EL3A, we have strived for two goals: to make the Backrooms a proper home through the unity of trading and to have positive neutral ties to all organizations. We have attempted to introduce better living conditions, the likes of which will one day be comparable to the Frontrooms, and have made trade agreements with distrusted or enigmatic groups like the Eternal Repository. Our intention with these deals is to showcase the limitless adhesion to our goals.
Although Diana left to form the U.E.C., and Arthur has stepped down entirely, we have tried to maintain the firm stances and vision for the future that the M.E.G. struggled to come to since their creation. With our new rotation of leaders and direct subordinates, we have successfully maintained our vision for normality through trust and trade for years on end. Our name and culture are known across the Backrooms, and our trades are held in almost all major levels.
The B.N.T.G. has a permissive chain of command, allowing for its members to act independently so long as their efforts benefit the organization as a whole. The following positions are not always used as titles but designate a rank within the B.N.T.G.'s structure. There are various employment opportunities available for both members and affiliated wanderers alike.
Board of Directors - Often labeled as the "leader(s)" of the B.N.T.G., they are a democratically elected council consisting of 8 members. This group makes major decisions on behalf of the organization and facilitates effective communication between the branches of the B.N.T.G.. The board members are voted on every two years and selected from a group of Executives from each sector.
Executives - The Executives are the individual heads of departments, bases, business sectors, outposts, and other fundamental aspects of the B.N.T.G.. They control the day-to-day operations and hold a unique position of power as the voting body within the organization. As the leaders of bases, they allocate local resources and oversee the projects of the B.N.T.G.'s various departments and affiliated trade groups.
Managers - The persons directly in charge of dedicated teams and projects. This position includes, but is not limited to:
- Team leaders
- Coordinators
- Supervisors
- Foremen
- Research leads.
Typically, these individuals fall under the purview of one or more Executives for progress reports and to receive new directives when necessary.
Employees - The non-administrative members and affiliates of B.N.T.G. constitute the most common positions within the organization. Consisting of a wide variety of occupations and titles, almost all non-security B.N.T.G. positions are considered 'Employees". Examples include:
- Factory workers
- Builders and Engineers
- Mining operators
- Delivery specialists
- Explorers.
They are, without a doubt, the backbone of the organization on which all projects are inevitably reliant.
Civilians - The non-union population of the many bases, outposts, and levels controlled or operated therein by the organization, along with non-aligned wanderers that participate in B.N.T.G.-incorporated economic establishments. Non-direct employment opportunities are available for the civilian population, typically consisting of mundane residential positions such as shop hands, cooks, sanitation workers, teachers, etc. While these jobs are paid positions, civilian employees are not entitled to the full B.N.T.G employee benefits package.
The Security Operations Center, internally known as the SOC Division, is responsible for all of the security and defensive services required from the B.N.T.G.. This sector is directly led by a member of the Board of Directors, known as the Security Chief, and adheres to a much stricter chain of command than the other sectors of the organization. For security purposes, the exact structure of the division is an internally kept secret, the following are the publicly known departments:
Trade Group Police Force - Commonly known as the TGPF, this group is comprised of the internal security forces of all B.N.T.G.-aligned bases and outposts. The most highly qualified of these individuals are recruited to the Traders Vault security detail.
Protection Services - This group works with various executives and project teams to provide protection while traveling throughout the Backrooms. A wide variety of specialized teams and squads compose the majority of this division.
Crisis Management - Highly secretive department responsible for facilitating defensive operations involving external factions.
The Trader's Keep
The Trader's Keep stands as the most renowned and second-largest base operated by the B.N.T.G., nestled deep within the Gilded Sector of Level 1. Though not the most populous, a prize claimed by New Times Square in Level 11, the Trader's Keep remains the heart of our logistical and trade operations. Its foundation lies in the repurposed remnants of Level 1's sprawling hallways, now carefully restructured. From these, we carved out entirely new sectors, crafting meeting rooms, processing centers, and communal living spaces. The Keep houses a mix of elite traders, seasoned couriers, organizational leadership, and a rotating number of wanderers who pass through before being sent to other outposts. Outside its human citizens, the outpost also usually houses our personal "no-clipping" mascot, Ferren.
At the core of the base lies the Trader’s Vault, the very structure that inspired the base’s name and strategic placement. Once a hallway filled with abandoned garage-style storage rooms, the Vault has since been transformed into one of the largest centralized stockpiling facilities in the Backrooms. While some still retain the anomalous properties of the rooms, each chamber now serves a specific purpose: some host categorized supply caches, others serve as quarantine zones for anomalous items, and a select few are reserved for high-value goods awaiting trade across various levels. Having become the centre of raids both from low-level burglars and more well known groups, the Vault is heavily guarded with both normal guards and special operatives trained to fight entire hordes of entities.
Due to its presence in Level 1, the Trader's Keep also serves as a first-contact point for new wanderers and trade partners. The Keep’s traders often act as informal ambassadors of the B.N.T.G., negotiating routes, organizing expeditions, and maintaining supply lines. In essence, Trader’s Keep is less a fortress and more a living marketplace and fortified outpost, becoming the heart of commerce inside the corridors of the habitable zone.
Other Notable Outposts and Levels
While the Trader's Keep remains our home base and the place where most of the administrative work happens, we have other relevant outposts. These bases tackle different objectives, needs, and necessities of our organization.
Placed inside a level 11 area remodeled to look like real-world Times Square and walled off from the rest of the Endless City, it is our most populated outpost. Thanks to the peaceful nature of the level, New Times Square is where most of our civilian population is located and where the majority of our newcomers are sent before being assigned a proper job.
At the heart of the area lies the bustling exchange station district: a dynamic crossroads where fresh recruits are trained in the art of trade. Around these stations, restaurants, barbershops, bars and compact gyms offer moments of leisure. Surrounding this core are the residential buildings, each containing apartments often inhabited by entire families.
A combined warehouse and modular office space hidden in the deep hallways of level 2, Office Space EL3A is our third most populated outpost. Originally discovered by accident by a supply team who was traveling to The Hub, and later expanded and developed thanks to the help of Emstable, the outpost functions as a bulk storage and distribution site.
The first area, composed of a ground-level warehouse, is where the distribution happens. Here is where the majority of objects, materials, and supplies are brought and temporarily stored before being distributed to the rest of the Backrooms. The second area instead contains a break room and repurposed modular office blocks, now used as housing for the workers.
Thanks to the permissive structure and bureaucracy of our group, Leaders and Executives have free range of decision-making for side projects and operations. This brought the B.N.T.G. to phase out of the boundaries of outposts and expand its outreach to entire levels.
Asset 194 stands as a perfect example. It consists primarily of a subtropical rainforest located at the foot of a mountain range. The level is completely controlled by our group, and to access it from outside wanderers need to pay a fee. Those looking to live there can request a building that we will implement easily thanks to the properties of the Asset. Level 194 is also our primary source of Agrugua Fruit, an object that has great healing capabilities.
Other less relevant but still fundamental outposts and assets include:
- Storage Facility: Located inside level 3, it contains a multitude of resources found in the first layers of the Backrooms, in particular electrical components.
- Space Complex Outpost: another secondary storage facility, specialized in microchips and highly elaborated technical components derived from the machines of level 3.1.
- Floor 283: This base contains housing cells adapted for couples and singular people without any rent or job expectations required. The outpost encompasses a floor of level 13 completely freed of entities.
- PlasticWorks: a mine found in level 24, it is specialized in extracting the plastic material that composes the moon that encompasses the level.
- Fruit Tegan Fairtrade: a heavily developed base found in the completely B.N.T.G.-controlled level 58. Not only tasked with the harvesting of the tegan fruit, the base oversees the reconstruction and development of the level, as it was found shrouded in misery and abandonment.
- The Sheephole: an estate located in the plains of level 77, it is our group's primary source of sheep-related materials like milk and wool.
- Operation "Finders Keepers": While not being a proper base due to the characteristics of level 246, our search teams here seek no-clipped treasures from the past, present, and future.
- White Castle: a resource extraction camp, it mainly collects food supplies obtained in level 283.
- Base "Energy Hunters": a small base tasked with collecting the batteries found in level 740.
- Trading Post "Neon": located at the edge of Sunset City in Level 808, it is used to trade goods and materials with residents in the city and acts as an embassy to the level's native group.
- Mining Community 901: the main source of minerals of the group; it is composed of the biggest mining outpost within Level 901 and a small town.
- Asset 9982: commonly known as level 998.2, it is a large, irregularly shaped flat plain reworked by the remodeling company. The asset contains an arena used for entity-human fights.
Our Trade Partners
As it is stated in our name, the B.N.T.G. upholds the concept of non-alignment. This means that we like to partake in trading with any group willing to, disregarding any kind of ideological or structural difference. So, while general relations may vary at certain times due to difficulties or disagreements, there are very few groups with whom we don't actively collaborate. Following is a list of our major trading partners.
Due to the fragmented and often ideologically divided structure of the Ariane Circle, the B.N.T.G. has historically chosen to engage with its divisions on an individual basis. During internal disputes, we have selectively supported certain factions based on compatibility and necessity.
Despite these occasional fractures, the Circle remains one of our key trade partners. Each branch engages in resource exchange with us, offering unique materials, rare artifacts, or specialized knowledge in return for our logistical and supply expertise.
Though generally reserved and secretive regarding their internal operations and technological developments, Backrooms Robotics initiated trade with us shortly after our founding. Initially, their focus was narrow, primarily limited to electrical components and engineered machine parts. However, as our organization grew, so did their trade catalog. Today, they exchange a diverse range of items, making them a valuable and evolving partner in our long-term trading network.
The Interdimensional Museum of Backrooms History was among the first major groups to formalize a trading relationship with us.
This partnership quickly evolved into something deeper: the I.M.B.H. now grants us privileged access to large portions of their research archives, and several B.N.T.G. artifacts and discoveries are featured in dedicated exhibits within their museum sectors. In return, we are their primary exporters of food supplies, electronic devices, and survival tools, and we often serve as a critical economic pillar supporting their continued exploration and historical research efforts.
Our relationship with the Major Explorers Group is rooted in a shared origin but has long since grown beyond its initial complications. Once defined by tension and mistrust following our split, the early months of our coexistence were marked by disagreements over collaborations and mission focus. Over time, however, necessity reshaped our connection.
Today, the M.E.G. is not only our largest logistical partner but also a key ally. What began with bad blood has matured into a mutually dependent and near-symbiotic economic partnership, with both sides benefiting from a steady exchange of resources, knowledge, and manpower.
The Unbound Explorers Coalition established diplomatic and trade ties with us a shortly after their formation, as their founder Diana Stewards remained a friend of our own.
The core of our exchange revolves around military components and weapons expertise. In return, the U.E.C. offers us logistical support in hostile environments and, on rare occasions, direct military aid during high-risk missions. While not as connected with us as the M.E.G., the U.E.C. has proven to be a pragmatic and useful ally in the field.
Reclusive, enigmatic, and notoriously selective in their dealings, the Eternal Repository was once considered nearly impossible to approach for formal cooperation. However, following our successful collaboration in a series of joint research and collection operations, interest from the Repository grew, opening a unique channel of exchange.
Today, they stand as our primary source for information, obscure knowledge, and artifacts. In return, we provide them with food reserves, select trade items, and rarely with valuable pieces of intelligence. While being delicate, it is a rare and potent alliance.
With the Backrooms Remodeling Co. we enacted a fruitful and productive alliance. Noting that the final objectives of the Company outside of remodeling leveles are still unknown and sometimes bring disaster, we still found between each other a mutual understanding.
We openly trade with the Company any kind of products and building materials, while we receive in exchange help in building and construction of our bases and outposts.
Though we maintain fewer formal arrangements, the B.N.T.G. continues to uphold consistent contact and strategic exchanges with several other groups. These relations may not be as deep, but they remain vital to our broader network of influence and trade:
- The Eyes of Argos – Occasional intel and support exchanges, particularly in criminal judgment.
- The Kalag Institute – Limited trade in medical and chemical resources; ongoing interest in joint biological studies.
- The Doctors – Supply trade and assistance during disease crises; frequent medical cooperation.
- The Lost – Cultural and historical trades; interactions are often situational and level-dependent.
- The Backrooms Travel Agency – Coordination of safe travel routes, occasional exchange of navigation data, food supply for their plane travels.
