TO THE MEMBERS OF THE INNER CIRCLE

Greetings. We at Pytheas wish you well.

It is no secret that change is inevitable— and the Backrooms are surely no exception. In any collective's time, there comes a point where a decision must be made— one that decides what the future holds.

We need to decide whether we will fade into the shadows— or whether we will acknowledge change, and emerge as the catalyst of humanity's protection. Our inaction in times of crisis will only lead to our downfall— if not for us, who will rise to the occasion?

For this reason, we at Pytheas are calling for a meeting amongst ourselves— to give everyone a seat at the round table our organization prides itself on upholding.

The dialogue will be held 48 hours from the sending of this message. We will be hosting this discussion in our birthplace— you know the way.

We are the bulwark.

Against all Odds,
The Auditor

"This is bullshit."

The first three words uttered at the meeting table belonged to none other than the head of team Thanatos himself, Adler.

"What gives any of you pencil-pushers in Pytheas the right to overrule the past decisions of the inner circle? Half of the teams in this room barely even leave their major bases, and suddenly you all are the experts on what needs to be done for the good of humanity? Please."

The Auditor raises a finger, cutting Adler off before he can continue his angry rant.

"And who decided to make you, the mercenary, the expert on administration and management?"

Adler stares daggers at the communications specialist, but holds his tongue. Across the table, the representative for team Hermes, Caleb Fixxt, exchanges an eye roll with Alexis Laurent, the communications agent for team Artemis.

"I think I speak for everyone when I ask this—" a new voice rings out. "But what exactly are we here to discuss today? Your message only commented on our lacking leadership in the inner circle, but never discussed what we intend to do about it."

The voice belongs to Dr. Julian Archange, the lead scientist and engineer for team Apollo. The room falls quiet as he speaks— Dr. Archange is well respected for his technological contributions to the Circle, even amongst the most isolationist of teams.

"I'm glad you asked." The Auditor replies, before dropping a thick stack of manilla folders in the center of the table. "I'm sure many of you have been noticing the lack of response in regards to some… particular casualties this past year. The Backrooms are becoming more unstable by the day, not only in the physical sense, but the political as well— tensions are higher than ever between major organizations, and what have we done about it?"

The Auditor pauses to let his words sink in.

"That's right, exactly nothing. My esteemed brothers in arms— does anyone care to remind us what our mission is within the Circle?"

Seeing where the Auditor is going with this, Dr. Archange replies. "We aim to shelter humanity from the ails of the Backrooms— and that doesn't just include threats of the environment."

The Auditor nods, and begins to slide folders across the table to each of the representatives. "Exactly— and things just keep getting worse. While we mainly manage communications here at Pytheas, we have a second job that isn't as glamorous… tracking deaths. Our friends at Kalag have provided us with valuable data at our request— statistics of the causes. To truly accomplish our duty as protectors of all, we need to know where to focus our resources. When any of you are given a mission from us— or provided information for that matter, it is always in tandem with the data's results. Depending on the statistics at any given time, the primary goal of the Circle will shift— adapting to answer the cries of our fellow man."

The Auditor takes a deep breath, preparing to convey his point.

"Over thirty percent of casualties in the last month were directly caused by major Groups of Interest, as defined by the G.P.D. In order to maintain our mission as the bulwark of humanity, the time comes for us to begin choosing sides. Simply put, neutrality is no longer an option. That, my friends, is what we are here to discuss."

A silence befalls the room as the Auditor eyes his companions. Mixed reactions are seen— some hesitant, some invigorated. In order to reign the crowd back in, the Auditor continues.

"I have gathered you here today to discuss our relations. With activity on the rise, the necessity to update them becomes a must. Within your file folders, Pytheas has gathered information we deem relevant to the cause. The time for action is now. We must decide once and for all who is friend, and who is adversary— and who better to start with than the Black Knights?"

Adler nods in agreement. "Just last week a few of our members got killed in a firefight with those bastards— if nothing else, they've just proven themselves to be a larger threat than we may have initially thought."

"Well, I don't know about that…" responds Sebastian Muller of team Hippocrates. "As far as we've seen, injuries caused by the Knights are just the same as they've always been— minimal."

"Because their victims are all dead, moron." Adler jabs back.

As heated discussion begins, elsewhere in the Backrooms, a field of flowers begins to bloom.
