Scrap Contest 2022
If you've written for the wiki for long enough, there's a good chance you've amassed at least a few drafts that you just don't have the motivation to finish or simply don't know how to. This contest was established with the goal of helping people get some of those drafts finished. In this contest, you will submit one or more unfinished drafts that you have written, and then you will claim and finish a draft someone else submitted.
Rules:
- You must submit at least one draft to participate. The window for submitting drafts is limited, so if you are thinking about participating, make sure you submit a draft during that period.
- You may submit as many drafts as you would like, and you can submit drafts even if you don't plan on writing for the contest.
- A draft submission can either be an unfinished article or a fleshed out description of an article idea.
- Draft submissions and claiming should all take place in the dedicated forum thread.
- When claiming a draft, you should reply to the post containing the draft and specify which draft you're claiming if the message has multiple drafts in it.
- Claiming drafts is on a first-come-first-serve basis, and multiple people cannot claim the same draft.
- If you submit a draft, recognize that you lose creative control over the draft, and the other author may do whatever they want with it.
- If you claim a draft, you have control over how much you would like to add or change about it, but you must keep the main idea of the original draft intact.
- Only one draft may be claimed per person.
- The score of each article will be based purely on their rating at the end of the voting period.
- Editing your articles after they are posted is allowed, if needed.
- Contest entries will not require greenlights to be posted, even if you do not normally have a greenlight exemption.
- Any attempts to give yourself an unfair advantage will result in disqualification. What counts as this will be decided by staff on a case-by-case basis. If you aren't sure if something counts as this, please ask staff.
- Draft submitting, claiming, and posting may only be done during their respective time periods.
- You may talk to the original author of the draft about what you're writing if you would like, but outside of that, you cannot have other co-authors.
- This is a writing contest, so drafts of theme pages, components, and hubs (with the exception of GOIs) cannot be submitted.
- Please tag your entries with "scrapcon2022" and add your pages to this page manually using the template below.
- The top 4 winners will each get to pick an article in the April feature cycle. A fifth feature may be added if there is a tie.
- Both the writer of the original draft and the writer who finishes the draft will be credited as contributors, and they will pick their prize feature jointly.
- You may use the code "scrapcon2022" to post entries for the duration of the contest. Use of this code for other coldposts will be met with disciplinary action.
Dates:
- May 30rd-June 5th (1 Week) — Submitting Period: During this time, you will submit drafts in this thread.
- June 6th-June 12th (1 Week) — Claiming Period: During this time, you may claim a draft from this thread. Writing may start as soon as you claim a draft.
- June 13th-July 10th (4 Weeks) — Writing Period: During this time, no articles may be posted, but you should work on writing and perfecting your articles.
- July 11th-July 24th (2 Weeks) — Posting Period: During this time, all articles submitted for the contest will be posted. You may still work on writing during this period.
- July 25th-July 31st (1 Week) — Voting Period: During this time, no more articles may be posted. This period exists so that articles that are added later can still rack up points.
All contest dates are based on "Anywhere on Earth", meaning that if the Posting Period is active in any time zone, posting is allowed.
One Final Word of Advice:
Remember that this contest is just for fun. Some people felt that the atmosphere of previous contests got a little too competitive; it's okay to be a little competitive, but don't let it get to the point where it lessens your or someone else's enjoyment of the contest.
