Dead Forest.

Level PL-53 is the 53rd level of the Polish Backrooms. The date of discovery of this place is so far unknown.

Description:

Level PL-53 is a dead coniferous forest, measuring about 135 km². Walking in a fixed direction causes wanderers to appear in the same place where they started. A month after the level was discovered, using a drone and a small rocket with a camera that had been created, members of the Association of Interdimensional Archaeologists investigated the level's surface and atmosphere. Due to the results, Level PL-53 has been recognised as a planet. The prevailing temperature here oscillates from 9 to 14°C.

In the daytime, the sky is covered with blue mixed with a grey, dark blue hue. The clouds are always grey, and the star illuminating this place is smaller than the Sun from The Frontrooms. During nighttime, the sky is covered with the same clouds, and the sky is a rich black. Four differently sized moons may also be seen in the night sky, which are most likely reflecting the starlight that illuminates the level area during the night. The day lasts about 5 to 7 hours, while the night lasts from 13 to 18 hours.

In the forest, you can find dead coniferous trees, logs, withered shrubs, dry grass, and decaying skeletons of common foxes and wild boars. Some segments of the level also have trodden paths that lead nowhere. There is no water source or buildings here, except for an old bunker, which is the exit from this place. It is also worth noting that the mighty, thick tree, which is infinitely tall. Attempting to climb more than 10 metres up this tree causes dizziness, resulting in the climber falling off of it.

Entities:

On Level PL-53, you can encounter entities such as Deadcrows, Vanishers, and red, blue, and purple varieties of Electric Fireflies. Also rarely, you can come across Reviooks. Most often these entities can be encountered during the night; however, this does not exclude encountering them in the day.

Common entities encountered by wanderers are Warrior Skeletons. They are living human corpses, dressed in old-fashioned costumes. Each one wears a knight's helmet, sword, and shield. Wanderers always encounter entities when a Skeleton emerges from the level's soil beside them. The Skeletons are hostile to humans and other beings, causing many encounters to end in open wounds and deaths of wanderers. Fights between other entities usually result in the loss of life of one party1. When the Skeletons win a fight or the opponent flees, they hide back under the ground of Level PL-53.

Hussar:

Another entity (that is only found on this level) is the Hussar. This is an adult male of Polish descent who is dressed and equipped like a winged hussar from the 17th century2. The entity is friendly to the wanderers who end up here and helps them get out of this level. He is often encountered when wanderers are attacked by Warrior Skeletons. During such situations, the Hussar kills enemy creatures with his Hussar Sabre, helping the explorers survive the attack. Importantly, the Skeletons do not emerge when the Hussar is nearby.

The Hussar travels on a type of horse (a now-extinct subspecies in the Frontrooms) called the wild tarpan horse. Interestingly, the Hussar's horse is much larger than other members of its species in normal reality, as it measures about 150 cm in height and 2 m in length. The horse is called "Malina"3 by the Hussar.

The man himself believes that he was a wealthy nobleman from the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, and ended up in another reality during the Battle of Byczyna4, in which he and his horse "fell under the ground of the front". When this happened, they emerged from the ground of Level PL-53. No-clip caused the transformation of the horse into a wild tarpan and the loss of the physiological needs of both beings. Also, the arrival of the Hussar in this place increased his physical and mental strength.

Bases, Outposts and Communities:

There are no known bases, outposts or communities on this level.

Entrances and Exits:

Entrances

  • Finding a rusty steel door on Level PL-49 and going through it will bring you to a bunker on Level PL-53;
  • Rarely, you can experience an uncontrollable no-clip on Level PL-51, which leads wanderers into this forest;
  • Finding a bunker on Level PL-51, Level PL-52 or Level PL-54 and entering it will bring you inside an identically looking bunker on Level PL-53.

Exits

The bunker located on this level is entirely made of concrete, is 25 m²˛ in area, and has two rusty doors located to the left and right of the bunker's centre, which have engraved inscriptions on them. The numbers on the doors change every few hours, which changes the exits of Level PL-53:
