Object 94 Timeline
(25 results from Circa 1964 to Circa 2035)
1964
Multiple reports from wanderers indicate the presence of computers within Level 4.
1965
Object 94 is officially discovered by the I.M.B.H..
1972
Shortly following their formation, the group known as the Leaders initiate researches focused on Object 94.
1976
The I.M.B.H. discover that all Wi-Fi networks interconnect with each other. This discovery lead to the designation of the term "BackNET", now commonly used to refer to this network infrastructure—also referred to as the "Internet of the Backrooms".
1981
The I.M.B.H. has identified the presence of a subnet utilizing the IPv4 protocol. Its usage has been observed exclusively on the user-generated websites of the BackNET.
1986
A coalition comprising the I.M.B.H., the Leaders, the Backrooms Robotics and the Kalag Institute initiate the development of a collaborative, universal public archive titled the "General Public Database", based on SGML. The G.P.D. is made accessible for everyone via the Back OS's native search engine.
1987
Shortly after the creation of the General Public Database, an unknown collective take over the management of the G.P.D. after an agreement with the coalition behind the project. No official name can be found relating to that collective prior to the acquisition of the G.P.D. Today, we refer them as simply "The General Public Database".
Similarly to the G.P.D., the Backrooms News Network management is given by the Leaders to the "Daily Rooms" after an agreement between the two parties.
1990
By general consensus, Object 94 is formally designated as "Back OS" following a public naming poll conducted by the Leaders. Following this poll, the other applications associated with Back OS are similarly named through the same public process.
1995
The Coalition for Digital Research (CRN) is established by the I.M.B.H. who partners with the Backrooms Robotics and the Leaders to initiate together, a joint operation referred to as "Yellow Wire". Its primary objective is to trace the origins of Back OS by locating the hypothesized "root servers".
1999
The Emstable causes the fall of the Leaders, leading to their withdrawal from the CRN.
2000
The Ariane Circle asks to join the CRN. Their request is accepted.
2006
The collective behind the General Public Database undertake a comprehensive overhaul of their website, replacing SGML with newer programming languages such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
2013
2014
2016
I lost my life following- [UNEXPECTED ERROR, I APOLOGISE, LET ME REFORMULATE] Lyra, a sentinel of the Eternal Repository, is reported KIA following an expedition within Level 400. The objective of the expedition was to investigate a potential correlation between entity-136 and Object 94. A subsequent team is deployed to continue the initial investigation. During a recorded interrogation, reference is made to a so-called "Holy Code."
2019
After a presumed hacker who goes by the name of "HorNET" breaks into one of the M.E.G. classified databases, it is revealed that user-generated websites accessible via BackNET Explorer are susceptible to security breaches. As a result, substantial enhancements to cybersecurity protocols for online archives are implemented.
2021
Under the pressure of HorNET, the M.E.G. is forced to reveal the fiasco behind their operation in Level 26. The press release is published in the 11,680th edition of the Daily Rooms and provoke significant public controversy that lead to reputational damage for the M.E.G. Following this incident, the M.E.G. cease all activities involving Back OS.
The Coalition for Digital Research is disbanded and the joint operation "Yellow Wire" aborted due to multiple disagreements between the parties and the sudden withdrawal of the M.E.G. However, each group continues their research individually.
It was determined that the HappyFiles Virus was developed by the U.E.C.
2022
The Ariane Circle publish the first official article regarding Back OS within the General Public Database. Concurrently, the "Liminal Echo" theory is made public on the Ariane Database.
The CRN Archive is made public the same year.
2024
HorNET, the perpetrator behind the series of cyberattacks that occurred until 2024 is finally identified by the M.E.G. Her name is "Xiao Lin", and she is a former Chinese hacker who is said to have been affiliated with the cyberactivist group “Anonymous”. She is independent but it was revealed that she has strong relations with the Masked Maidens, which could be explained by her past activities. Her usual target is the M.E.G., but other groups and individuals are not spared either. She becomes one of the main targets on the M.E.G.'s most-wanted list.
2025-2028
A total of 23 individuals are wanted by the M.E.G. for acts of desertion with stolen M.E.G. assets, occurring between 2025 and 2028. Their motive is still unknown, and none of them have been found ever since.
2032
Rumors about a certain "Level 772" begins to widespread on the BackNET following the recovery of a BackDoor private conversation by a prominent lost media investigator known as [GhostHunter99] using the Wayback Machine. Several groups and independents begin to investigate the matter.
RECENT
A coldpost published on the G.P.D. by a user named ᓵ∷ᒷᔑℸ ̣ 𝙹∷ sparks strong reactions from the public. Studies are underway to determine whether this is a hoax or genuine information.
> Thanks Lyra, looks like you've improved a lot from your last version.
I'm honored, master.
> Well, until next time.
Have a nice day, master!
