CRN Archives

The Coalition for Digital Research (CRN standing for "Coalition sur la Recherche Numérique") aims for a better understanding of digital technologies and the mastery of this revolutionary technology. Established by the initiative of the I.M.B.H., the CRN gathered the most prominent actors of the IT field at the time: The Leaders and the Backrooms Robotics. The same year, we initiated a joint operation to unite our forces in the studies of Object 94, more commonly known as “Back OS™”.

The fall of The Leaders leads to their withdrawal from the CRN.

The Ariane Circle joins the CRN this March.

The M.E.G. officially joins the CRN this January.

The Eternal Repository officially joins the CRN this September.

The CRN is officially disbanded.

The CRN Archives has been declassified under the request of The I.M.B.H. and the Ariane Circle.

Operation Briefing

Excluding the IPv4 network, it would only be logical for Back OS™ and the main network to rely on servers to provide online services, as they would require at least a DNS server, DHCP, file server, and database. As a result, this joint operation was conducted to determine the possible locations of the root servers powering Back OS™, with the condition that none of us would claim ownership of the asset and that it would be handled solely for research purposes. The main suspected locations were, of course, Level 120, Level 502, and Level 400, but Level 11 and even Level 26 were thoroughly investigated as well, with the The "Matrix" being the most recent researched location.

After almost twenty years of intensive collaboration and efforts, frustration began to build within us. The results of this joint operation remained unfruitful overall, raising more questions and confusion than at the outset. While the Ariane Circle and the Backrooms Robotics firmly believed that the “Matrix” was the location, the M.E.G. deviated from the rest of the group and leaned towards the Level 26 theory with these smiling abominations. And to make things even worse, The Eternal Repository ended up isolating themselves by focusing entirely on Level 400 and the Coders that they suspected to be the ones behind Back OS™. Last year, the M.E.G. was caught in a scandal involving non-ethical practices; the joint operation was eventually canceled the same year due to multiple disagreements between the different groups and the sudden withdrawal of the M.E.G.

The oil was already spilled, but the M.E.G. scandal was the spark that ignited the fire. In the present day, our group, the Eternal Repository, and the Backrooms Robotics still continue working on that case but in separate ways, while the M.E.G. decided to cease all activities regarding Back OS™.

In the end, no clear trace of Back OS™ could be found anywhere other than the devices of the Backrooms running it.

We know Back OS™ comes from somewhere. But where? Unfortunately, we do not have any precise idea, and I'm willing to bet that whoever created Back OS™ would do everything in his power to sabotage our efforts to uncover the truth. Time is running out; it's been more than 20 years since we began investigating this case, and I'm afraid the mystery will continue for some time to come. With Back OS™ becoming one of the most coveted "objects" in the Backrooms, if the Eternal Repository, the Backrooms Robotics, or any other group were to monopolize it, the consequences could be catastrophic for all of us. So, in case someone were to find those servers, that should be us or even the Ariane Circle, as long as the greed of power doesn't strike us.

We have to stay strong, comrades; we cannot give up after all we've been through these past 20 years.

We may not find the solution for now, but the day will come, I'm certain.
