This Person of Interest does not meet human gender norms; therefore, all gender pronouns may apply. However, this page is written using exclusively they/them pronouns for ease of understanding. These pronouns do not represent the expression of the POI and are only there for the purpose of simplification.

NAME: Nyxtlr’a
ALIAS(ES): "Nyx", "The Alien"
KNOWN AFFILIATIONS: Mutual collaboration with the Ariane Circle, Member of the Ariane Circle, Ongoing work with the Cygnus Archive
LAST KNOWN LOCATION(S): Level 523-FR, Level 410-FR, The Cygnus Archive
DESCRIPTION
Nyxtlr’a1, more commonly known as “Nyx”, is a humanoid individual who does not seem to age or grow. Nyx does not belong to any particular age group but is assumed to be young based off of appearances. They can be easily recognized by their atypical physique. In fact, Nyx's skin is dark gray, sometimes appearing blue in certain lighting. Numerous intricate symbols and designs cover their arms and face, though currently no one knows whether these are tattoos or natural patterns2. Nyx stands at approximately 5'9" (1.75 m) but appears to weigh significantly more than most humans of similar build.
By nature, Nyx is resistant to most injuries, repeatedly explaining to members of the Ariane Circle that they are "better at healing" than humans.
The first time contact was made with Nyx was after members of Team Hermes of the Ariane Circle landed on Level 523-FR, while on a mission, after seeing Nyx dragging a human body from Level 45-FR3. After entering the house in the center of the flower field, one of the members was knocked unconscious with a folding chair by the POI. Afterwards, the rest of the members4 attempted to communicate with Nyx in order to make peace and recover the injured member.
Once they had moved on to other levels, the members of the Ariane Circle began to encounter the POI more frequently during their explorations until they once again established contact with Nyx.
The Ariane Circle therefore began to implement joint work projects with Nyx in order to teach them the basics of several human languages, with the benefit of better understanding survival within the Backrooms with their help.
Over the months of work, satisfactory contact was established with Nyx, who was even able to hold conversations with humans.5.
As members of the Ariane Circle and the Cygnus Archive worked with Nyx, it was established that they were not native to the Backrooms, and likely came from another planet in the Frontrooms or possibly their own Frontrooms. Nyx also mentioned having used to “work” in a domain related to “star technology,” but despite nearly two hours of explanation and much rephrasing, no one present really understood what the POI meant.
BIOLOGY
Nyx has many biological peculiarities that sets them apart from humans, the most notable being their increased resistance to injury and shock. Despite several instances where Nyx's wellness has been badly affected by other entities, or even by some of the wanderers themselves, they always seem to recover quickly from any physical damage. However, they require a significant amount of sleep to regenerate their cells effectively. Nyx themself has stated that it would take them between 5 and 8 days of continuous sleep to regenerate a full limb.
Their regeneration cycle seems near identical to that of the cells of living beings in the Frontrooms, although extremely accelerated. Some members of the Ariane Circle report having entered the house on Level 523-FR and finding remains of Nyx’s skin arranged in a corner, which indicates that part of their regeneration process is comparable to the molting of certain reptiles6.
Nyx also has very different vision than humans, with their color perception being similar to that of a person with tritanopia7. Their eyes also have unusual reflective properties, allowing them to see in near-total darkness with minimal light. Much like those of a feline, Nyx's retinas also reflect any light that is shone in their eyes, making them appear to glow in the dark.

Photograph of Lucarnes mandibles; the tips of the POI’s jowls resemble the central mandibles of the top row.
Their diet consists mainly of metal and meat. According to statements from the POI, their jaw holds two sharp mandibles that allow them to pierce through tough skin and catch prey. Nyx mainly eats aluminum cans, flesh of entities they find in levels, and small spoons8, Nyx's strength can make them a fearsome predator that can catch and kill entities just as large as, if not more immense, than themself.
Nyx has not confirmed if they have ever attacked humans9.
BEHAVIORS
Nyx has demonstrated abilities that are out of the ordinary10, such as:
- The ability to create portals leading to other levels, the levels being chosen randomly11.
- A familiarity with our mathematical concepts, albeit represented differently, and seem to have a capacity for abstract problem solving much higher than that observed in even the most gifted humans.
- Modifying entire levels by a method they call “Modeling”.
- Changing the molecular structure of certain objects.
- The ability to directly connect to most technologies within a radius of 2 meters from themself.
- Understanding the functions of human technologies after observing them for a short period of time.
The POI also seems strongly intrigued by many human behaviors and has been seen several times singing or drawing with humans. Nyx seems to have an idea of what music is, but it is very far from our own, using intervals that most Westerners would call "dissonant."
Despite their great reasoning and association skills, Nyx seems to have a lot of trouble understanding certain concepts that may seem “basic” to humans.
Melina's death was also very complicated for Nyx to understand; their species not knowing the concept of death, or at least not in the same way as humans, the idea of never seeing Melina again is perhaps not even fully comprehensible for them yet. Indeed, their entire species lives in a constant cycle of regeneration; therefore, the concept of permanent death is not part of their system of thought.
Similarly, the existence of human children seemed to greatly disturb the POI, who repeatedly explained that their species is born "finished"12, and does not go through an intermediate stage before adulthood. It seems that Nyx thought this concept was reserved for insects or non-humanoid life forms.

START OF RECORDING
A. Kelvin: So, you're ready?
Nyx: I… yes. [They bring their face close to the microphone.] And this is listening?
A. Kelvin: Well, yes, but not really… The word is “record”.
Nyx: [With strong emphasis on the r] Record… Like “recording”, Anna explained “recording” to me yesterday for M.E.G.
A. Kelvin: Anna? Anna Alstreim? She spoke to you yesterday?
[Nyx remains silent for a few seconds.]
Nyx: I think Anna and I talked yesterday, yes. Before today. Is the box recording?
A. Kelvin: Yes, it’s recording. Sorry. Let’s get started.
[Anthony clears his throat.]
A. Kelvin: Ok, so Nyx, can you explain to me—
Nyx: [Interrupting] Explain what?
A. Kelvin: Wait a second; I'm not finished.
Nyx: Ah… I sorry. Continue.
A. Kelvin: No problem. So, can you explain to me how you modify levels? You did it for 523 and for others as well; how do you do it?
[Silence.]
A. Kelvin: Nyx?
Nyx: Modify…
[Silence.]
A. Kelvin: You take the levels and make them different, yes?
Nyx: Yes, I do that. Yes.
A. Kelvin: Okay, and how do you do that?
Nyx: I… move the cubes.
A. Kelvin: The cubes?
Nyx: Yes, like when I work, before here. I take the cube and I move the cube, then I put the cube down, and that makes a new thing.
[Silence.]
A. Kelvin: What are these… cubes?
[Silence.]
[Nyx places their hand on the wall and “rips” a piece off without causing any damage to the structure, moving the “piece” a few centimeters before pushing it back into the wall.]
Nyx: Cubes.
[Anthony remains silent for a few seconds before clearing his throat.]
A. Kelvin: I… see, cubes then.
Nyx: Do you have anything else? Any other questions?
[Silence.]
Nyx: Anthony, are you okay?
[Silence.]
A. Kelvin: [Shaken] I’m… okay.
