Level ES-10 is the ES-11th level of the Backrooms.
Description:
Level ES-10 is a large expanse of land and forests in a state of perpetual winter. There is no day-night cycle on this level, and it is stuck in a snowy morning. The average temperature recorded within the level is -10°C (10°F), and it will not rise above 0°C (32°F). The snow on the grass in Level ES-10 will always remain in thin layers that allow for easy traversal on foot. The only exception to this rule is when a blizzard is approaching. This abrupt change in weather occurs at random times and will usually stop within a few minutes.
Trees in Level ES-10 that are not part of the pine forests are dead and relatively brittle. The snow, though thin, can sometimes be found in mounds piled up in the shape of medium-sized snowballs, as if they had been shoveled. Trees in the pine forests are relatively normal in appearance, except for the peculiarity that when cut down, their wood melts when exposed to intense heat instead of burning as it normally would. Afterward, it can be seen that the trees are made of some type of plastic or plastic alloy.
In the northern area of the level, there is a relatively large barn and a house. The house is only one story high but contains an attic. The barn is completely empty, containing only a few bales of hay with no anomalous properties. The house, meanwhile, is made of a type of synthetic wood similar in texture to plastic. The lower story has a floor of the same wood as the walls, and in general, every object made of pine wood seems to have this property. There is a heater acting as a makeshift fireplace, and in front of it are a red sofa, a coffee table, and an old piece of furniture displaying a handmade embroidery next to empty photo frames.
The kitchen has a round table with four chairs and an old gas stove that's still functional. It also has an old, dirty refrigerator that always contains at least one bottle of Almond Water when you close and reopen it.
The house has no light of its own, and illumination is based solely on the light entering through the windows. How the light is produced is unknown, as there is no celestial body emitting it. Travelers who enter this level report that it is somewhat difficult to distinguish distant objects, as the combination of snowfall and the dull luminescence of the level itself makes it difficult to perceive.
Discovery:
Level ES-10 was first discovered on 25/09/2023 by M.E.G. Explorer Juanjo while conducting a routine tour of Level ES-9 and requesting a larger group to reconnoiter the terrain. The audio and video recordings have been preserved for public viewing in this archive.
The Attic
A rope hangs from the ceiling of the living room; pulling it will give access to the house's attic. The attic is partially empty, as it consists mostly of old cardboard boxes sealed with tape, each bearing a nameless card for either the sender or the recipient. When opened, the boxes may contain random objects. Once the contents of a box have been removed, it cannot be opened again by the same person for a generally short but indefinite period of time. It should also be noted that larger objects, and those that would not properly fit inside the attic, will materialize inside the barn located outside the house.
Inside the attic there's a note on the floor, wrinkled and yellow with age. It has no sender or recipient, just like the boxes, but it affectionately addresses the intended recipient as if they were a family member.
I know we once had our differences, and I hope you can forgive me. I don't want to ruin our relationship like that, so I brought the gifts just as you asked. I hid them in the attic because I knew no one would look for them until tomorrow. It's not too late for us to reconcile, and that's why I saved this one, so enjoy it. It's a gift from me to you.
Objects
The items in the boxes are random, but a list of them has been compiled below:
Number of open boxes | Content | |
---|---|---|
1 | Some brown teddy bear | |
2 | Some Royal Rations | |
3 | Some Lemonade | |
4 | A pack of cigarettes of an unknown brand | |
5 | A tribal mask resembling a tiger | |
6 | A jar of strange liquid [Pending revision] | |
7 | A piece of oak wood belonging to Level ES-19 |
Bases, Outposts, and Communities
M.E.G.: Extraction Team "The Plastic Colony"
- The Plastic Colony is a small group sent by the M.E.G. dedicated to extracting oak from pine trees on this level.
- They don't trade; they just come to do their job.
- Their help can be requested if needed, but it is not their primary task.
Entrances and Exits
Entrances
- Finding a plastic pine tree deep in Level ES-16 will bring you into this level if you no-clip into it.
- A direct entrance door can be found from Level ES-9 marked "Winter".
- Any structure that has a chimney can be no-clipped into to enter this level.
Exits
- The only guaranteed way out is to cross the pine trees that stretch for miles and walk for an indefinite amount of time, which will lead you to Level ES-11.
The following is an alternate exit that is not consistent:
- The attic's boxes have a tiny chance of giving you a ferry pass that you can use to enter the islands on Level ES-19.
