All the latest Backrooms news of the month!
Happy new year! Magnileak here to bring you the first site news of the year, and the fall/winter recap! Things have been busy in the community since the last site news. Here are a few notable events that happened:
Folklorecon2025 saw a bit less participation than we would've liked, but everyone who did participate did very well in bringing the folklore, and introducing new concepts to the Backrooms. Here are the winners:

Backtober is an annual art event where, every day, you receive a prompt and draw something based on that prompt. Surprisingly, only one person completed all 31 days of Backtober. Congratulations to centurys lute for completing Backtober 2025!
Star Critics
On October, the GLMP updated the process of selecting the monthly star critic. Please note that with the implementation of this new system, the old points system has been abolished.
One member of the critic team is given the "Star Critic" role for consistently providing high-quality critique during the previous month. Critics are recommended to highlight at least four threads that are the best examples of their critique. The Greenlighter Team will then deliberate together, evaluate the performance of every critic, and decide who will receive the "Star Critic" role, which comes with the front-page "Critic Spotlight" feature of an article of their choice.
- Quality ≠ Quantity. We are looking for high-quality critique, not the amount of critique a critic can provide in a certain timeframe.
- Members who are part of the GLMP are not eligible for Star Critic.

GLMP Updates
- Magnileak has been promoted to Greenlight Trainee, and has been doing great work behind the scenes with Akimoto in finding AI-generated pages.
- SkullDoggery has been promoted to Greenlight Trainee and is doing great work on the fast track to becoming a Greenflame Trialee.
- vange has been promoted to Greenlight Trainee.
- neptunium153 has been promoted to Greenlight Trainee.
- InspectingCritters has been promoted to Greenlighter.

Specifically, we want people who can do the maintenance tasks, run Discord events, and contribute to staff projects.
The GLMP and Critic Crew are looking for new recruits; if you have any interest in giving critique, greenlighting, and/or assisting with the trimming project, you can Apply Here or talk to a greenlighter on Discord.
We also realise we need to communicate with the community better, so these are some topics staff is considering at the moment:
- Still working on streamlining the critique system.
- Starting projects to make the site fully CC compliant.
- Completing the Tech reform policy.
- Increasing community engagement and non-contest writing incentives.
- Reinstating regular crit nights and activities.
- Increasing general staff activity and possible recruitment drives.
