End of Promptcon

Tesseract had a lot of fun with the prompts!

After Six weeks, Promptcon is over! Thanks a lot to everyone for their participation. We got a total of twenty-one pages in the entire event!

We've seen a lot of different directions during this contest. From people using multiple prompts together to others using one in different ways, many themes and formats have been explored, showing how vast and rich this community and this universe are.

Of course, you had to make a choice on your favorite page, and the podium is the following:

  • First Place: Spectre48Spectre48 and SchulzenreichSchulzenreich with The Jaws of Emendation, a format-screw enigmatic entity set in Level 78 showcasing what truly lies within the depths of the Backrooms.
  • Second Place: MC_Crafter_24_7MC_Crafter_24_7 with Level 175, a level page about a desert city engulfed in a deadly sepia tone, where all but one wanderer left their lives.
  • Third Place: Greggita MahayfaioGreggita Mahayfaio with Level 320, a 12-offset-long narration following the toxic relationship of Magnus and Esther, which lead to a cascade of events culminating in the recreation of the formerly destroyed Level 32.

A huge thanks to everyone who took their time and creativity to participate, we'll see you in the next one! If you have any contest theme ideas, feel free to let us know on the discord in the suggestion channel!

Snip snip snip!

Entity 2 - "Windows" is one of the trimmed entries that are open for rewrite. Feel free to apply for it if you have ideas on how to make the page better!

This site has been around for almost five years now. Nowadays, it is an established writing community aiming at expanding the Backrooms universe through quality and compelling writing.

However, things haven't always been this way. Like SCP and Backrooms Fandom before us, the early times of the wiki were characterized by poor writing and lore expansion. Pages published in 2020 barely develop their concept or use overdone ones. Nowadays, they wouldn't leave the critic phase without many required improvements.

Yet, those pages are more often than not the most popular or viewed ones, usually by their low numbers. They are taken as examples to follow by new writers and do not represent the goals of our site anymore.

As such, like SCP and Backrooms Fandom before us, we are officially starting a mass trimming of the wiki pages.

What does this mean? The greenlighters and staff will each week vote on a small amount of old pages, thinking of whether it should stay on the site or not. Criteria used are mainly based on quality, with the thought "Would this page, even if written by a new author, be published as-is today?". If the answer is yes, the page will stay in the main page lists. In the other case, however, the page will be moved into a special trimmed: category. They are still available to be read on the wiki, and do still belong in the lore, but they aren't featured on the site directly due to not meeting the minimum quality standards we have nowadays, and setting a bad example for writers.

In addition to this, if a page is deemed important to the wiki (for example heavy link use, or a popular concept), or if the page has the potential to be improved, the page will be open for rewrite, using the tag to-rewrite. All of the pages there can be rewritten with the GLMP approbation, by using the rewrite application form (you do not need the original author's aproval to apply). So if you like one of the open trimmed pages, and want to see it succeed by developing it, make sure you apply!

You can check the progress on the mass trimming here, or in the trimming-announcements channel on the discord server.

Secret Santa

Happy Holidays!

Secret Santa 2024, or as I like to call it, the Santas of Secrets, is currently being held! It may be too late to sign up now, but here's the gist of it: each participant provides a list of what they want to receive as a gift (both writing and art, so that our artists can participate too!). Then, each person is randomly (and SECRETLY) assigned a person who they will make a gift for! We currently have 21 participants, and on the 25th (Christmas, for those who celebrate) the gifts will be transferred! Happy happying to our participants!

Introducing: the Component Hub!

Tesseract would like to wish you all happy coding!

After nearly 5 years of this site existing, we1 have finally made a hub for the various components people have made over the years! From the Image Block to the brand new PTS, we have a bunch of tech available for you to use in your page to make it sparkle! There are 4 categories of components:

  • Common/Required: These are things like the Image Block and the License Box. These components are used heavily throughout the site and may even be required to use in order to post your page! These are designated with the common-component tag.
  • Classification: A bit self-explanatory, classification components are general rank systems used for any of the categories! These are things like the SD Class, CECS, PTS, etc. These are designated with the class-component tag.
  • Aesthetic: These are components that help add to the visual appeal of a page and allow you to customize it to your liking! These pair well with themes to really create a unique look for your page, for example: Scrollquote or Draggable. These are designated with the aesthetic-component tag.
  • GOI: Again, a bit self-explanatory, these are components that are tied to a GOI. For lore reasons or just for fun, these help add worldbuilding to our site in a unique way! A couple of examples of this are the Backrooms Robotics Box or IETS. These are designated with the goi-component tag.

The Component Hub is the first major step in the Tech Reform Project by ReyDayReyDay and Super-Robot14Super-Robot14, so stay tuned! We have a lot of exciting new things coming up that you wouldn’t want to miss.

Repairs & Upgrades!

One of the new Tess stickers

In light of the new mascot, there have been a number of changes throughout the site and our socials to include Tess! From Discord emojis to the various hubs on the site, you can find our silly cube person anywhere!

Thank you to the various artists who have helped make these various art pieces including Tess, Morte from Backrooms Updates, and Fia from the Backrooms Weekly Podcast:

On top of that, we’ve slightly changed the pride version of the site logo to be more visually appealing and universal in terms of background2. It was made by BUBBLINGBEACHBUBBLINGBEACH, along with an animated version made by ReyDayReyDay3.

We have also continued to replace non-CC and AI images on the site, along with fixing broken images and adding license boxes! The progress we have made over the past few months has been remarkable, and it has all been because of these incredible individuals:

The following pages have had image replacements or fixes:

We’ve also added the Korean Branch to the Translations Component! Go check out their site and show ‘em some love!

Last but certainly not least, we have finally upgraded to https! This means that our site will be much more secure, making usage a lot safer for everyone!

Remember folks, if you see any pages with broken images or something that needs fixing, please tell a staff member! We’ll get on it ASAP.

Features & Pages of the Week

As usual, after each contest, the features of this month have been decided by the four most upvoted authors of Promptcon. Funnily enough, however, all four of them this time featured each other's contest entry. So if you haven't read them yet, now's your time!

Even with our advancements in modern day technology, we have only been able to study 5% of the observable universe… in the Frontrooms. With The Jaws Of Emendation, Spectre48Spectre48 and SchulzenreichSchulzenreich show us an entity as incomprehensible as it is terrifying, giving us a glimpse at what lies not only within the depths of Level 78, but reality itself.

A city engulfed in sepia tones? What could possibly go wrong? With Level 175 - "Monochrome Madness", MC_Crafter_24_7MC_Crafter_24_7 shows us a dangerous dimension nobody was able to escape. Nobody except Gareth Rutherford, who tells us the story of his adventure through a catchy and dynamic format.
Monochrome_Skyscrapers.jpg

Buckle up and sure time is on your side, because this is one hell of a story. With Level 320 - "The new, and improved, Entertainland!", Greggita MahayfaioGreggita Mahayfaio tells us the fall, rise and inevitable failure of the remodeled Level 32 through a compelling narration showing the relation between Magnus and Esther that evolves alongside the one of the level.

LIFE is then DEATH is the END but then WHY IS LIFE? With Object 54, Super-Robot14Super-Robot14 presents us— Wait… What is the page about even? Is it a story? Or simply a living paradox showing the illogical nature of the Backrooms? I guess the only way to find out is to read it…

And of course, it wouldn't be a proper feature section without our art features! This month we have:

For the pages of the week that were featured this month, we had:

Updates from TS Staff and GLMP!
