Dear friends and colleagues,

Welcome. Truth be told, I have had my mind set on the multiverse ever since my first article for this amazing writing community, Level 365: "Your Worst Enemy," posted on June 13, 2022. My allegiance to the concept is evident in most of my submissions (see Goerman's Multiverse Chronology below), whether it is a level, entity, object, phenomenon, or tale.

Physical - matter and space
Temporal - time-related
Ethereal - psychic or metaphysical

Of course, it is only a theory.

Mankind is like life in a drop of water.

We are ignorant of what lies beyond.

For some, being trapped in the Backrooms is their first taste of another reality in the multiverse. My story is different. Ordinary people on Earth are discovering extraordinary things, and I found myself documenting these events. People are encountering nonhuman beings in bustling cities, in the middle of rural nowhere, and even in their homes. This is bigger than landed UFOs and so-called "aliens." How can we explain chilling accounts of temporal anomalies or witnesses trespassing on parallel worlds and returning while still walking on Earth?

When given the choice, I made the Backrooms my destiny. This place embraces the multiverse to the nth degree. I have awakened.

Premise

Earth and our vast universe are but a single drop. Beyond this observable cosmos, there is a literal ocean of other universes. The Backrooms reality is, apparently, an important "hub" for portions of the multiverse. It is believed that some Backrooms entities, such as Sightless Seers, are extra-dimensional in origin.

One storyline of this canon follows the exploits of Anne Dunne, Amy Cochrane, and Dr. John Rhinehart, PhD, of the M.E.G. Team "Epiphany" as they explore the Backrooms and discover its ties to the multiverse. It involves threats like the Fun War¹ and the larger Subtle War². Humanity is not a welcome species.

There are many ways in which alternate realities might influence the Backrooms. Other storylines must exist. Feel free to discover the treasures of the multiverse.

Goerman's Multiverse Chronology

1969

While Americans land on the moon, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics conducts "Operation Wonderland" in secret. This project no-clips KGB scientist Nikolai Ilyushin - (codename White Rabbit) - now known as Doctor John Rhinehart, PhD, to the Backrooms.

1970

Once his survival and new identity become stabilized, Rhinehart begins researching the process of causation in the Backrooms, which leads to the yin and yang of Phenomenon 7 - "Liminal Echo" and Phenomenon 33 - "Autocorrect" being eventually documented. Liminal Echo exists as a widespread condition of the Backrooms that is detrimental to wanderers. Autocorrect, on the other hand, manifests in situations that are immediately beneficial to targeted individuals.

1973

Deacon Duncan no-clips into the Backrooms, becomes Partygoer Zero and creates Partygoers.

1977

Amy Cochrane no-clips into the Backrooms on her 18th birthday (July 7th) and is found by Alberto Sanchez.

2010

First MiB attack that Marvin Matthews witnessed, pre-M.E.G.

The SS Adventure is built on Earth and disappears.

2011

Three groups merge to form M.E.G., but it is not named or official yet.

"The SS Fun" (actually the cruise liner Adventure from the Frontrooms) is now the anomalous headquarters for the Partygoers. It maneuvers around the Backrooms by no-clipping from level to level.

2012

M.E.G. is made official.

Second MiB attack and Marvin Matthews is now a high-ranking M.E.G. member.

Team “Party Over” is created, led by David Overbrook, whose law enforcement mindset is stubbornly convinced that Partygoers are not anomalous, but are actually a cannibalistic wanderer cult disguised as entities.

2013

Forty years after the fact, a dying Daniel Kebab gives a "deathbed confession" to tell his story about the creation of Partygoer Zero.

2014

Levels 365 and 710 are discovered. Teams “Looking Glass” and “Harbinger” are formed. Amy Cochrane and Alberto Sanchez join “Harbinger.”

A mysterious "One in the Ring" on Level 710 is studying human mental processes. It is believed that other realms, maybe even the Frontrooms, can be sighted within the ancient Harbinger Arch directly below the Ring in the sky. It is also rumored that a few wanderers have allegedly stepped through the arch without emerging from the other side.

M.E.G. confirms that Partygoers are truly undead chimeras and Team “Party Over” is disbanded. Rhinehart studies Partygoers to find weaknesses.

2015

Anne Dunne no-clips from Earth to Level 365 after being warned to drop her paranormal research by the Men in Black, joins Team “Looking Glass.”

Sightless Seers studied by Rhinehart.

2016

Seer Tea is explored by Anne and Rhinehart early this year.

M.E.G. Security Technician Alberto Sanchez of Team "Harbinger" is "enchanted" by a Man in Black. (Wanderers are directed to The Visitor section of the article describing Level 710 for more information.) Another Security Technician, Amy Cochrane, is ordered by Station Chief Marvin Matthews to rush Sanchez to M.E.G. Base Alpha immediately for treatment. We learn of an MiB plot against Anne Dunne.

Alberto Sanchez is Dead On Arrival at Base Alpha. Amy Cochrane meets Anne Dunne in Anne's Lament and decides to protect her, ignoring orders not to get involved, and hopes to avenge Alberto.

Anne and Amy flee from their deadly pursuer in Anne's Escape. We learn that the Men in Black are not human and Anne saves Amy from MiB enchantment. We see something else: a mysterious power is helping the girls.

Anne Dunne sets events into motion and the One in the Ring on Level 710 is finally identified before it sacrifices itself to destroy the Man in Black in Anne's Farewell. She walks between worlds before finally finding Level 414, physically and magically transformed.

Team "Epiphany" is formed with Dr. John Rhinehart, PhD (science), Anne Dunne (psychic), and Amy Cochrane (swords).

2017

Liminal Forest or Level 345, also known as Nostalgic Park and Happy Land, is a Backrooms theme park on the threshold of human consciousness. The park supersedes time and space and something there is studying human memories and emotions.

2018

Entity 123 is a spectral being responsible for the demise of several residents of these Backrooms and the Frontrooms. It often takes the form of an evil doppelganger (or double) of the victim. It can also manifest as a horrifying event or circumstances beyond the victim's control, with every encounter revolving around the name of its prey. Is your name on its list?

2019

The wanderer in bed 13 during the Happy Dance incident at the LVL-4 Sleep Shelter has been identified. A wallet found in a backpack contained both his driver's license and military identification, revealing our visitor to be "19-year-old" Brian Foulkes of Cleveland, Ohio. If this ID is not counterfeit, then the date of birth for Mr. Foulkes has not occurred. The credit cards in his wallet display expiration dates more than twenty years from now. Three slightly worn coins (two dimes and one quarter) display mintage marks for years that are yet to exist.

2020

M.E.G. discovers “SS Adventure” link to Partygoers
Phenomenon 30 - "Orbs" are found in digital photographs across the Earth and the Backrooms. What are they?

Entity 190 - The Men in Black can't stop other "alien" beings from visiting Earth and interacting with humans. They can only appear after the fact and eradicate threats to Earth's quarantine.

2022

Planes of existence were created beyond space and time to confine the most dangerous criminals and beings across the multiverse. Diabolical sabotage during one failed escape attempt sent one such extra-dimensional penal colony crashing into the Backrooms to become Level 234.

Level 246, also known as "Dinosaur Alley," has been described as "the sinkhole of the multiverse." Time makes this level unique. Every inch of terrain here inexorably echoes certain years on Earth, and "time travel," in a manner of speaking, is accomplished by walking across this temporal landscape. The "Age of Consequences" plays hide-and-seek among lofty plateaus. Mount Olympus holds Facelings from the distant future, aliens, and cryptids, while the One of the Divine Path tells Anne Dunne about the "Subtle War." The fate of humanity is at stake.
