Minimalism Contest 2021

As the Backrooms Wiki has matured, articles have become more and more complex. This is a good thing in most ways, but there's certainly an allure to minimalism. Being able to convey emotions and tell a story in just a few paragraphs can sometimes take much more skill and refinement than a 10,000 word tale. For this reason, we are excited to announce the Minimalism Contest!

Rules

• There is no maximum word count for this contest. Rather, each submission's score will be its rating multiplied by 1,000 and divided by the number of words (Ex: A 200 word article with a rating of +7 would have a score of 7 * 1,000 / 200 = 35.00).

• You will have 2 weeks to write your article after the contest is announced. No entries will be accepted after the end date of the contest. After this, there will an additional 1 week period so that last minute entries can still accumulate votes, and then all scores will be finalized.

• Anyone may submit an article to this contest, and you may even submit more than one.

• Contest entries will not require greenlight to be posted—This is mostly due to the fact that the greenlight team is very overloaded, and in some cases there just might not be enough time. It is still recommended that all participants get critique, but that is not mandatory.

• Each article get's one "free" piece of media (ie: audio or video files), but after that each piece of media will count as 50 words. In things such as comics, each panel will count as its own image.

• In audio or video files, any words shown or spoken still count towards the total word count; however transcriptions will not be double counted.

• Joke articles will not be allowed in the contest, but humor is still fine. The reason for this is that more meme related jokes are, by far, much easier to do with a very short amount of writing than anything else. Aside from this, any format is fine.

• Staff have the right to disqualify an article if the author is clearly trying to get around the rules through a loophole.

• All submissions to the contest should be tagged with "mincon2021".

• The winners of the contest will each get to pick a featured article for the June feature cycle.

Dates

April 19th: The contest is announced, and writing begins.
May 3rd: The writing period ends, and no new submissions will be accepted.
May 10th: Voting ends, and the winners are announced.
