Promptly jolting upright in the motel bed hours later, Spec flicks his eyes from side to side, surveying the room as he shakes off the last remnants of sleep. He's barely had enough time to re-process the events of the previous "night" when the bathroom door swings open.

"Good morning princess, nice of you to join me in the land of the living."

Alexis steps into the main room, picking up some of Spec's clothes from the floor and tossing them over to him. Spec catches the bundle, giving Alexis an icy death stare in return.

"Shut up."

Alexis smiles, cocking his head towards the open door. "Shower's all yours. I left some Neosporin on the sink for you— you're covered in cuts."

Spec looks down at himself, the bloodstained sheets being his final motivator to get up. He sighs as he makes his way over, picking up his backpack at the foot of the bed.

"I've got at least two extra pairs of clothes in here. They should more or less fit you— we're close to the same build anyway."

"Verifiably." Alexis chimes in.

Spec rolls his eyes, retrieving a clean outfit from the worn sack before tossing it over.

"Figure it out. Just don't stay in there longer than an hour, you know the drill."

Alexis returns the eye roll, scoffing as he unzips the pack. "What, do you think I clipped yesterday?"

Spec smirks at him as he closes the bathroom door.

As soon as Spec is out of vision, Alexis sits down with his head in his hands.

"What have I done. What the fuck have I done. I never planned for things to end up this way— he doesn't deserve— didn't deserve any of this. I knew I was getting close to him— but actually getting attached? This can't be happening… I've got to stop this now, before it goes deeper. Before anything progresses. How do I even—"

"Hey, Doctor Strange, you in there? Are you tripping out or something?"

Alexis shakes the thoughts out of his head. "Why is Spec back out here? Didn't he just—" Alexis checks the digital alarm clock, seeing thirty minutes had passed. "That's impossible, did I really…"

"Yeah, I'm fine… I just— need some space right now."

Spec's eyes soften as he tilts his head to the side.

"What's wrong? Are you ok?"

Alexis shakes his head as he makes his way towards the door.

"Don't worry about it. It's nothing."

Spec doesn't seem to buy the answer.

"Are you sure? Is it something I did? Listen, if it's about last night, I—"

Alexis cuts him off. "It's not you, it's me. And yes, I know how bullshit that statement is. I just… want to move on. Please."

Spec nods. He looks like a kid that just got his sand castle kicked over.

"I understand. But you owe me a conversation about this once we get back to the mainline levels. When you're ready. Because THAT…" Spec gestures back towards the room. "…Isn't going to go away on its own. I… haven't really been in this situation before, but what I do know is we need to figure out where we go from here. Sorry, I'm not trying to be pushy—"

Alexis cuts him off. "No, no, you're ok. Can we just… go back to making our way home?" "Shit. I didn't mean for any of this to happen. Should I just come clean? He looks so pathetic. God. Why…"

Spec sighs, holding open the motel door that leads back into the desert.

"Sure. Ladies first."
