You promised you'd take me there again some day… but you never did.
J'ai pensé à cette citation en écrivant la page

The fact that I coudn't understand any of the comments-
Anyways, really kewl page, but why are the 'I's not in caps? Totally understand if it's a stylistic choice.
an excellent example of minimalism, in every way I can think of. the all-lowercase font is an excellent stylistic choice, the intentional… blockiness(?) of the language really sells this as a stream of consciousness, and the final line is a great stinger. just well put together all-around, the kind of thing I would see doing well in a flash fiction contest.
I get that this is supposed to be minimalist, which is why I’m novoting instead of a downvote. My rule for rating things is to judge them for what they are, not for what they aren’t, and I know this isn’t supposed to be something very evocative or flowery. It’s minimalism, it’s simplicity, and every word is purely emphasizing what this page is at its core.
However, I do expect pages to still get something out of me.
I think the problem I have with this page is that its use of minimalism removes the gravity of the concept it presents. The generalization of the main character makes this feel hollow to me, not all-encompassing. I get that you are trying to make this applicable to any reader, but in doing so, this made it feel… empty in a way? To me, it isn’t reminiscent of something that recognizes the complexity of suicide and how much of a universal human experience it can be, instead it comes off more as careless for what the subject is experiencing.
This feels more objective than personal, and because of that, this didn’t do as much as it could’ve for me.
I think that this would’ve benefitted more from providing more characterization to the main character. Even if this is a second-person story that is supposed to be about the reader, I think it could have retained its minimalist feel while still providing something that the readers could latch onto more and feel more empathetic towards.
Overall, I like what this is and what it is at its core, but I think that it could’ve done more. Because of that, I’m novoting.
I disagree with this.
Suicide is a very complex topic and this page approaches one of those complexities. The way I see it, this page approaches the cruelty of suicide. It is a moment that, for the individual who is about to die, is filled with thoughts and emotions and history and so on but this page is not looking at the individual but rather the moment itself. Death ultimately does not care who is dying and that is what I see represented in this page. It is not about a person committing suicide, it is about the moment of suicide itself.
That’s a fair point! However, in terms of personal experience, this didn’t do much for me, and I’m voting as such. Enjoyment is subjective and allat jazz.
This wasn't me demanding enjoyment of you. I am not an emotuon fascist
My main gripe is less centered around the main themes of the article and more around its execution. While reading I felt that the page did not exactly deliver the final bits well. It feels as though I could perceive so much more from these lines, yet the page decides to give up on it. It's like wanting to charge your phone to 100% and only stop at 70%—it still works, but it is not the same thing. The page seems to compell the reader to feel something close to them in the beginning, only not to fully commit to this by the end. However, I personally do not see any major problem with the handling of the theme of suicide.
Minimalistic pieces are not easy to judge for me and I understand that it is always about coming up with the right balance in both delivery and concept, so I admit my opinion is definitely more subjective than anything. 'Quality'-wise, I do not have a lot to complain about, with the exception of "be all okay now" which disrupted the read a bit (at least on mobile.)
Please mind the Forest.
Aye, it's good to have your opinion on this! I'm always curious to hear different perspectives and yours is valuable. As you said, Minimalistic pieces relies a lot on sticking the landing and maintaining a momentum of sorts.
As for the "all okay now" bit, yeah understandable… I tried a little thing™️by trying to make the text fit the shape of a falling body, heh.
