{SEEKING GREENLIGHT} Level 89 - "Cross Country"

Summary:

Hello, fellow wanderers and greenlighters! I'm back after 10-11 months of silence with a level that touches on a different concept of horror: a boringly long pathway with only curiosity being the main driving point. It's supposed to be a very meaningful level about the rancid demands of "what lies at the end of the road" and how it deteriorates our own state of mind. If this sounds too generic for you, then I'm sorry in advance. Just see the level for yourself and critique/greenlight it when you're ready. What did I do wrong? What can I add? What typos did I make? Would this be okay to put on the site? Your writing style is solid, but I think the idea still needs more development. From the sentence “The primary objective of Level 89 is to traverse the entire walkable path…”, what I gather is that the level might possess some form of sentient consciousness and wants those who enter to complete it—but at the same time, it actively prevents them from doing so. Or perhaps something else entirely. Still, this seems to be just a speculative theory and probably doesn’t hold much weight.

There doesn’t seem to be a core message or theme that the level is trying to convey, so there’s not much I can critique in that regard—but content-wise, I think it feels underdeveloped. You mention Entity NA051 and Entity NA010, but you don’t expand on them at all. The level feels strong in concept but under-thought in execution. The core idea of “a path that can’t be completed” is solid, and the fact that the M.E.G. doesn’t understand why people end up here also makes sense—but that’s pretty much it. In the end, there’s nothing tangible to hold onto.

In a level like this, if there isn't something inherently interesting about the level itself, it's reasonable to compensate for that with a strong story. Add a story so that the reader becomes more interest in the narrative behind the level than in the level itself. Level should be read to understand the story, not the story should be reat to understand level.

You know, this may come as a shock, but as of now compared to back then, I am not really expecting this level to actually be greenlit anymore. (at least in the state that I put it in) I thought it looked good when I first came up with the concept and executed it, but just now I realize how on-the-nose and haphazard it is.

The theme I put onto the level is actually pretty absurd to me and it probably fails to capture the awe-inspiring wonder that one expects from these levels. I wish that I won't half-ass a theme to a concept of a level like this in the future, even if it has potential and it is actually well-thought.

Also, this isn't really necessary to add and it is conceptually kinda egotistical, I realize that, but I'm starting a write for a sub-level of Level 198. I only added what the reader would initially see when they click on the level, yet despite the lack of content, I want you to theorize what this level could and will be including some additional critique. Again, it's not necessary, but it could help me execute and expand on it as finely as possible.
