There's romance in my Nyx lore? It's more likely than you think. Great page!
(title isn't changing despite my username change on discord cuz I'm too lazy to think of anything else).
This is so gay.
I love it.
+1 for good, +2 for gay
Oh god I hate that I have to do this.
So, you guys know that I am allergic to romance. Still, I thought of giving this page a chance, I was curious, it's a sequel of a tale I've enjoyed.
My big takeaway is this: Why should I care for any romantic developments between Anthony and Nyx? What themes does that relationship explore, effectively?
Nyx has potential, especially when you know their backstory of being an alien who noclipped in a world that wasn't even meant for their reality, of having to cope with being severed from their hivemind and deal with their newfound individuality. I don't believe the page particularly succeeds at exploring Nyx in any meaningful way, or rather in a way that makes me feel like I should care.
Let's begin with a little analysis of what's being told here. Basically, we're exposed to the aftermath of Nyx's big fight. The AC does what the AC knows best, which is arguing and debating over what to do. Here already, there is a general issue of pacing, where multiple characters are introduced in a very short time, sometimes without much transition: for instance, Katya's introductory paragraph ends, and we're immediately cutting to a different character speaking, with no time given for setting. Then suddenly, multiple other names are dropped (who the hell is Nicolas Lecompte?), and I am just… completely lost. What is happening? That part does tell me a bit more about AC's internal conflicts and that the Black Knights are taken seriously as a threat to both the group and Nyx. Alright, sure.
The following scenes between Anthony and Nyx basically gives us more lore: Nyx wants to go back to L523-FR, but can't because the BK will most certainly raid the place again, and the AC (but most importantly, Anthony) does not believe Nyx will be able to withstand one more attack. Instead, the AC wants Nyx to move to L410-FR, but Nyx doesn't want to because it's too unsafe out there, until Anthony finally convinces Nyx. And here is where you do lose me… Because the romantic aspect of their relationship feels contrived and forced. They're probably only now discovering each other in a deeper way, and yet here they are ending up in each other's arms. It feels hardly believable. Couldn't we instead have Nyx explain their understanding of what "love" is? Platonic or not, it must be particular for an alien that used to be part of a hivemind to form relationships with others. The inability to know exactly what the others think, it's got to be anxiety-inducing, yet also exciting. As for Anthony, I'm sure there are themes of discovering attraction or at the very least interest for something you never knew before, and trying to make sense of that. Yet all of that isn't explored, that's disappointing.
Anyway, that's my rambly two cents on the tale. I know there is a second offset, I am not gonna lie: I have no idea of what is happening in here, I have read the word "Starbucks" and saw a backlink to the SCP Foundation, and… I lost interest. I feel like I am supposed to know some deep lore about the Black Knights to read this part, which I frankly don't really want to.
As I am unable to fully appreciate the entire tale, I will not be voting.
I will say that the connections to SCP have been there since the beginning. It’s something that’s deeply engraved into BK lore and always has been, as I’m sure a lot of people know that Hylius(the creator of BK) is an SCP author. This is just the first time that the connection has been shown in a page.
in the vast bitter black coffee that is the backrooms, the relationship between Anthony and Nyx really let me appreciate the cup by adding caramel syrup and oat milk (yes thats just me citing my coffee order cause i saw the word starbucks LMAO)
i dont think its romance in here per se, but this felt just really wholesome and like the beginning of something, even though Nyx seems only fond of Anthony for now whereas Anthony REALLY has a big crush on them lmaoo
the second offset i was less receptive to too cause i have no clue whats going on with BK but i just know theyre evil and their plans didnt work so im happy about this LMAO
anyways this was cutesy im happy i read this :3
