Backrooms is an alive-universe. Liminal Echo, The Hearth Of Universe and more says that. There are a lot of examples, but i don't remember. If i remember, i will edit this message.

Backrooms can be compared to a virus in the most basic terms. Just as a virus is a lifeless being when it does not enter a body, we do not know at the moment under what conditions Backrooms will be completely alive. But some levels (Level 30, Level 148) have more vitality than other levels.
The reason why the Backrooms are lifeless is because being immortal is more than being lifeless. Also, if the Backrooms were completely alive, it would consume a lot of energy and would spend the dark energy it has not on the construction of new levels, but on maintaining its own vitality. I think the incident on the first page of Icarus Procidens is a sneaky assassination by the Backrooms to obtain dark energy.
