Great article, I just hope the no-clipping deserves #1 group doesn't come and destroy this phenomenon
Also, The no-clip #1 group should be its own phenomenon
does anyone see these forum signatures, also why does this have more space than the description
Agreed
I'm justice!…What?…No not the blind folded girl!
#1 still ain't no-clipping les go
I'm justice!…What?…No not the blind folded girl!
You have no idea how happy I am about that XD

Okay hear me out: i kind of enjoyed it. I didn't dislike it, so i won't downvote, but Im not going to upvote either. I quite honestly just didn't enjoy the concept much, and most of the page just confused me. I still don't 100% get it lol. Maybe if you went back and made it simpler for my smooth brain id reconsider, but unfortunately, I must leave you with a novote.
-1 +1
I exist for the sole purpose of writing this
There's an author explanation if you were confused btw
As described in the article, Phenomenon 1 does not seem ANOMALOUS enough.
"Phenomena are known for defying laws of physics, pushing the boundaries of ideas such as time and Euclidean geometry, and allowing the impossible to be reality …. A phenomenon can be something like the walls of a level suddenly changing color for a day, a space and/or effect within a level that causes time to speed up or slow down, a strange ritual which can be used to summon an otherworldly creature, the form of a level suddenly shifting permanently, or any other irregular, difficult-to-explain occurrence that can be described on a wiki article."
This "Directed Control,” as a matter of "awareness" or "perception," also enjoys theoretical freedom in the Frontrooms. That we are trapped in a "Matrix," of sorts. That reality is not real. That dreams are reality and vice versa. That we are pawns.
I am currently working on a phenomenon that I refer to as "Distant Influence," where the thoughts and behaviors of the victims are influenced by enigmatic forces and powers emanating from certain levels, entities, or objects.

I couldn't agree more
You promised you'd take me there again some day… but you never did.
I’m doing something similar, though it is centralized to one object specifically instead of multiple
I actually had one I was working on. I hope your not taking the phenomenon 5 slot, that's my current slot I'm hoping for. Mine is the "unknowable documentation". It's effects the Object 905 slot specifically.
I’m pretty adamant on the idea of Phenomenon 1 being no-clipping. Alot of people seem to misunderstand and think that it’s the slot that people are seeing as important. For me it’s about the order. It only really matters enough to me to think of it this way for the first slot, but because i like to think that this site is supposed to be the M.E.G. database, it makes so much sense in my head for the first slot to be taken up by something that is important, common, and probably the first phenomenon a person encounters. It’s for that same reason that i’m actually VERY okay with this article being first.
Meta stuff is wayy overdone. It’s died down a bit now but people try way too often to make meta stuff in my opinion, and it makes it hard for any of it to be interesting. THIS is good meta. It’s basically “free will?” - the article, but instead of the universe itself being what may or may not be controlling us, it’s ‘something’ else. Guiding people like they’re a story.
It checks all the boxes that no-clipping did for me.
Important - While technically it can be seen as not important because if it exists there’s nothing you can do about it, people see free will as important regardless; this is important regardless.
Common - Though the article implies you may not always be aware of it, if it’s real it is happening always and to everyone, or at least everyone who has written existence in any backrooms media.
First encountered - Whether you’re aware of it or not, if it’s real it’s happening as soon as you enter the backrooms, technically even before then to create the narrative where you enter the backrooms in the first place.
(i also love that the “please prove me wrong or add more detail” thing at the end links to an actual DM towards ghostchibi)
I don't know. It could be common, but how would they know if they can't confirm if it's real or not. I feel like it's more of a psycological affect more than a glimpse into the multiverse or whatever. That makes more sense to me. I dunno. No-clipping being #1 makes sense to me, but at the same time, I kinda want to just like… yaknow, actually care about the article more than the slot (or order).
I'm good with this existing. It's cool. I don't know if I want the Backrooms to have Meta elements or not. +1 for the concept, but I would tend to think of it as some weird thing the Backrooms does to you once you're in there for long enough… slowly loosing your sanity… thoughts of what you've lost swirling around… annoyance at the last Phenomanon 1 being wiped off the platform even though it was good…
I know I'd think everything was a lie if I fell into a place of horror and isolation beyond my dreams…
Anyways! It's perdy good :D
There were a few other reasons people downvoted the previous Phenomenon 1 into deletion. Alot of the low-karma downvoters would mostly have been because of the slot, but alot of the high-karma downvoters had more to say about how taking the slot was handled, not that it was taken.
What do you mean? It was handled just like how this one was, as far as I can tell
Nah it was put out before the community at large had any announced confirmation this new category would be a thing aside from one announcement 3 days before its release, which isn’t against any rules but it still feels a little unfair.
Pin used greenlight exemption to nab the slot within 5 minutes of it opening, which is not what it should be used for, it’s practically a gift from the staff team to experienced authors to make them not need to wait as long through the crit process, not to give them preference over “special” slots.
And the article was an almost direct copy-paste of one of their existing works that is already posted on the site: http://backrooms-wiki.wikidot.com/the-fool/offset/3
Aha! you see, I'm stupid and never found out the password for The Fool, so I didn't know. Thanks for clearing that up! I now also dislike that article :D
Oh i mean you can dislike that one if you want but i wouldn’t say the original’s a bad article, just the now-deleted copy-paste of it that was used to snag the phenomenon 1 slot 😅
well yeah, that's what I meant, of course
The number of upvotes for this article haunts me still.
It is not that ghostchibi doesn’t deserve them. The article is eloquent and written well.
Is Phenomenon 1 more anomalous than I realized?
Was my initial reading too cursory? Has some hidden subtlety escaped me?
I fired up my desktop for another go at this article. Read it about a half dozen times without any additional revelations. In desperation, I switched to my tablet. Sometimes, reading “on-the-go” (walking about, et cetera) triggers a new viewpoint. I inverted the tablet for a new perspective. Maybe I needed to read it upside down,” like the “Upside Down” in Stranger Things. That would, indeed, add a new (or at least, different) perspective to the text.
No dice.
I happened to stroll by the two full-length mirrors in my dining room.
Just maybe …
I held the tablet up to the mirror and began reading the reversed words.
It hit me.
The Backrooms is not real. This is a community writing project where talented authors create works of fiction about levels, entities, and objects.
“Directed Control refers to a phenomenon in which people believe themselves and their surroundings to be fake.”
What if the population of the Backrooms (tulpas) began to awaken to the fact (singularity) that they and their surroundings are not real? Fiction realizing that it is only fiction? Would the phenomenon of Directed Control be anomalous enough then? Of course, this is utter nonsense! Do NOT take a single word of this seriously.
A +1 for you, after all.

I guess the Controlling Force revealed itself to you
This is much better than I imagined. It's like being in the matrix, only to find out it's all code. But with another universe. That's cool.
thank you all for all the comments :)
I'm what the kids call "impatient" so after I posted this, I came up with a quote that was really good. In the spirit of "making things better after I go and show it to everyone" I've gone ahead and added it. Think of it as an in-universe addendum.
Random thing, i’d like to think that some believers in the concept would refer to Directed Control as “Guidance” to help them cope and affirm that they DO still have free will, and are still at least somewhat in control, whether they are or not.
An interesting addition to be sure. Consider me thinking-about-this-too-much
I'm gonna take your name and make an object out of that. Then I'm gonna copy it here. I'll be back in a bit.
I have it at least mostly done.
OBJECT NUMBER: 945
DESCRIPTION: Object 945 is an old, mahogany cabinet, missing the handle on its left door and middle drawer. The object is empty, having not even dust or webs inside, but the outside is covered in dust at all times, which when removed, more dust will take its place immediately. The back of the cabinet has a large hole in it, though it is neither visible nor accessible from the outside. On its right door handle, there is a metal combination lock, but the lock is stuck and rusted. When an item is placed in Object 945, and the doors and drawers are closed, the object will teleport the item to a random location in a 10 meter radius. The item is always teleported to a location with no direct observation. A camera placed in Object 945 only revealed the item (and itself) being teleported instantly. In one frame both were in Object 945, the next frame they were on a chair 3 meters infront of it.
DISCOVERY: Records of Object 945 were corrupted, however a small portion of the file remained, revealing it was discovered by Parvan Gear. No other info on its origins were uncovered.
