Hehehe, I get to have the first comment on such an important page? +1
︻デ═一 hehe, nice. a very prestigious rank that no one else can hold :smug:

I will provide a no vote.
Reason being is that a lot of the wording gets clunky and makes parts confusing. I’ve had to reread a few sentences a few times to even understand what they mean. Might just be me though.
Second, the tone is inconsistent. It shifts from formal to novelistic repeatedly, making immersion break often.
Third, the announcement states that the main concept of the level revolves around suicide but yet suicide was actually brought up once in a paragraph. If suicide is the main idea, I suggest adding more suicidal effects to the level.
Despite these harsh dislikes, I did like the somberness of the level and how you described it. I like how you were able to make the entry “depressing” but not too brooding, which makes it more realistic and gets readers into a state of engagement.
Where there is a choice of two evils, I choose both.
the novel thing is honestly just how I write, I like to bleed emotion and feeling into clinical tone to make the place, item, or whatever feel more descriptive.
Also, I'm not adding suicidal effects, lol. That feels very redundant and kinda scuffed. The level is basically something people naturally turned into myth, or a place to kill oneself. It's mentioned at the end page, with some subtle hints for it like the stones and why this is being described in the first place, and then after the reveal of why people use it I describe a group that's centred around that idea
Clunky wording is my bad tho, if you can find examples, I will fix 'em!

There's a few SPaG errors which should be ironed out (I can go back through and take note of all of them if nobody else wants to), but otherwise, it's quite good. It's a worthy rewrite that takes the original premise and makes into something greater that is worth the grandeur. I do wonder, though, how they know there's an entrance in Level 254.
~ ~ Secrets~ ~
If you want an in-lore explanation though, it can be assumed that between that article being written and the timeframe in which this article was written (being about 2023 - 2024), that more people would've gone to Level 254 and documented more about it
it also allowed me to keep that entrance on my minecraft map

Wait?Minecraft map?Which version?Where can l download it?
I still think 1000dumplings' work is better, so novote.
Btw, why admins here just deleted dumplings' work and don't keep a copy in this site?

**Level 998** is the 999th level of the Backrooms.

]]
+ **Description:**
The main large circle in the center of Level 998 has a radius of about 100 miles. The floor of the circle is a repeating image of clouds, which have the texture of smooth concrete painted over. The "sky" of this level is also a still image of clouds. The layout is completely flat, and consists of 3 areas. Consistent with all three zones, as you progress further into Level 998, distant squares of the cloud texture will suddenly appear in front of you, and dissapear behind you, in a process known as the "rendering" effect.
++++ Area 1
Area 1 has a repeating image of clouds as its floor, and is completely devoid of entities. It is considered the safe area, and consists of about a 50 mile radius.
++++ Area 2
Area 2 has a similar image of repeating clouds, but much darker. The clouds are dark grey, and the sky will turn to a similar image of dark clouds. This area is a 25 mile thick ring surrounding Area 1, and is full of dangerous entities. Hordes of [ Smilers], [ Skin Stealers], [ Hounds], [ Wretches], [ Partygoers], and many more, will attack en masse.
Notably, entities that there should only be one of in existence, such as [The Game Master] and [The Animated King] can appear alongside the other entities, often as duplicates. It is assumed that Level 998 "pulls" simulacra of any entity perceived to be a threat to Area 2. Be prepared for a fight if you dare attempt to enter this area.
++++ Area 3
Once you pass the 25 mile mark, you will enter Area 3. Area 3 is flat, like the previous areas. But the sky and ground will become pitch black. You will only be able to see your own body. Turning back and traveling back through Area 2 and Area 1 is possible still. Traveling further beyond this point is not recommended whatsoever (See Entrances And Exits).
+ **Bases, Outposts and Communities**
There are no known bases, outposts, or communities on this level.
+ **Entrances And Exits:**
++++ Entrances
A white door will lead into a flight of stairs. This flight of stairs will go up for a long time, eventually leading you to a small room with one door. Opening the door leads directly into Level 998. The location of this white door is variable, but it can be found in Levels below 500.
++++ Exits
Leave Level 998 by returning back the way you came. It is extremely risky to leave this level the alternative way. To begin, walk straight forward in any direction from the entrance. Bring some kind of weapon with you into Area 2, you will have to fight through possibly hundreds of Entities. If the horde is too much for you to handle, turn back and run. You will be able to see if you have made it to the border.
Once you pass the border between Area 2 and Area 3, continue walking. Do not bring any supplies into Area 3, leave them behind. Walk until you feel like you will die if you continue any further. Once you finally succumb to exhaustion, starvation, or dehydration, you will wake up in [Level 999]. God save you if you choose this path, because there's no turning back now.

I like this rewrite but I will give a negative vote because the one who rewrote this simply ignored that main point of level 998, that being an accessway to 999.
—colossalhuge
I think so, too.
Maybe so does AButtonOnACat does not match any existing user name.
I can understand it that you meant to cut the connection between Levels 998 and 999, but the connection is exactly what I expect at first. This article is not bad, though.
Sorry for my novote.
Heres the thing-Level 999 in of itself is currently being rewritten. It will not be the only exit to level 1000 anymore. That is a good thing for various reasons which I wont get into but because of that there is no reason for this to be the "exclusive 999 exit". it was a dumb and tropey idea and I am glad it got removed.
Concept is good, emotions are there, overall ammaaaaaazing
wordings are confusing at some parts tho
No signature defined?
Great rewrite but I don't think it was necessary to rewrite it and i still like the original more. Also i like the old Level 998 nickname. Anyway
+1
To be fair, the old one was probably cooler, I just like coming up with more names
Why do you think it didn't need a rewrite?
Eyy.. i just typed a loada garrbagge
Holy crap, this is actually… amazing. Definitely way better than the original. I want to know more about The Spiritors. For an unofficial group of interest, they’re actually really interesting.
I love this rewrite so much, and I'm surprised how I didn't hear about it until now.
