This is a bland concept. The Scarabacks are outdone by literally anything, including a flashlight. They are almost useless to anyone outside the Lost, and this should just be on the Lost page. This doesn't require an entire article. It is a simple concept that doesn't really do anything. "Rock that emits noise and light" isn't interesting, even with the fake mystery put at the end of the article involving the Lost.
I must ask how this article is not being rewritten, but great articles like Office Terminals which have satirical and introspective elements are being rewritten. Just because an article involves the Lost, that doesn't make it interesting. You need a special concept or execution.
Now I have been tearing into this article but that would be useless without presenting a solution to the problem. I personally think Scarabacks could do more interesting things than predicting mere light. Here are a few ideas:
- The Scarabacks form a quick and rudimentary armor that is similar to carapace, which the Lost use to run into battle and fight Entities.
- The Scarabacks predict the future or a possible one. Yes, I know they are attached to the Egyptian God of the Dawn, but that doesn't mean they should be limited to light only.
- The Scarabacks can act similar to D&D's Figurines of Wondrous Power. They are already a statuette of a creature. If they were to come alive and attack Entities (while glowing if you want to keep the Dawn association), that'd make a really cool Object.
Also the Lost mostly worships the Pantheon, so why are the Egyptian Gods here? Sure, scarabs and all, but this goes against established Lost lore.
In an effort to not make a comment longer than the article itself, I'll stop here. In summary, this article is bad and doesn't make any sense. It has a bad execution and an even worse concept.
This article has mostly flown under the radar, which is evident from there being only 1 other comment in 5 years. Obviously if it was better, it would have gotten more love.
The article is so bad that I can only find 1 singular instance of someone using it through Back links. Even though, there are 8 links to other pages, 3 of those are just lists of articles, and 2 of them are linked because they are the surrounding objects (Object 13 and Object 15) so they have to link it at the bottom of the page. 2 other backlinks are literally just lists of objects. Scarabacks have been used only ONCE and it was a deleted page.
For obvious reasons, this article either needs a rewrite or a deletion, and frankly I'm leaning towards the latter.
