For me this is teetering in +1 and novote since i do really enjoy this level and the writing style its just the concept that has some holes in it for me personally. I don't have much criticism i can say but i can respect the writing so it is a nice +1 (also ill read the rewrite asap once it comes out).

while this is getting a rewrite, I figured I’d review this one in the meanwhile, the level concept is interesting but nothing too notable, they were throwing way too many things at the start and it almost felt really cramped, the random mention of the masked maidens also felt off.

level 3 compares itself a lot to the previous few levels. the clinical tone here is also weaker than 0, 1, and 2. it's one of the more forgettable entries in the industrial-interior trio, being a repeat of level 0's topology except metal. also, flamethrowers in the backrooms? not to mention, why would the meg exhaust valuable explosives for the purpose of opening some random prison bars in 3? the most interesting sections of the description are the latter half of the paragraphs, and you could've opened with elements from those instead of a lengthy comparison to 0.

-1

Something rubs me wrong here. The description is nice and all, and provides a nice summary of the level as a whole. It's just… nit very interesting to me. You struggle to hold my attention with a quite bland tone and vocabulary. The concept also does almost none of the heavy lifting here, comprising of approximately zilch other than just "cool electrical placey-place".

This level is extremely detailed, and is actually written like a standard document would be. However, the narative here is sort of boring. After level 2 being pretty much the same, this comes off as level 2 but again. I'd lean into a more distinct experience if this gets another rewrite.
"Notably, Level 3 is also the level in which Wi-Fi in The Backrooms is at its strongest, sitting at a consistent three or four bars instead of fluctuating randomly like in the majority of other levels."
Wifi in the backrooms is a problematic concept. What's to stop MEG or better yet average joe number 150 from live-tweeting his experience. Sure, when one person posts about it might look fake, and with two people they'd think your a sockpuppet account and ignore both of ya, but with three people, people will start believing it, and when four or more people post about it, people are going to start believing it.
However, this level has the base of my favorite GOI, and my least favorite as well.
The followers of jerry are a great concept done well, and I love them.
However, the masked maidens are confusing, unclear, and their hub is extremely buggy to the point of being illegible on mobile.

This level honestly bored me. NEXT!
7/10, novote.

Though this article manages to tell the reader a bit more about the Level much unlike Level 2, I still find the article itself to ruin it for me. The last part of this post was executed rather well! However, I feel as if the first part/topic wasn't structured at all, and that the author threw ideas about the Level into the air as they came. I'll be honest; I skimmed over the first part mostly because it felt unreadable in a sense of organization of ideas.

It's okay for me. Novote.

Fair enough, yeah I probably didn't give very good crit here but I just personally didn't like this article.

That's…sorta all it boils down to. Most of my issues are subjective ones based on the fact I found this concept boring too read.

Its an improvement from 0, 1, and 2 in terms of writing but in terms of concept, I feel similarly too how I do about those levels. I was disinterested.

Now, I do think I had a bad take here..or at least my wording was terrible.

Ultimately, downvoting this was not really fair because all of my issues come from a purely subjective place of me just not finding the article that interesting.

Changing my downvote to a no vote.

Congratulations you’re the first person in a year and a month since publishing to downvote this article, beating out even the most pretentious voters like Rika and Saria.

I’m confused as to your standard here, because you basically just said “Your article managed to supersede expectations in almost every way, but because this is a rewrite of a concept that was common at the time and isn’t as well-liked by today’s standards, I’m downvoting.” Huh? Concept is not the end all be all you make it out to be. I’ve seen articles with butt concepts be actually not bad before like the reverse defecation birds. Your argument that concept is the Hail Mary of the article is… frankly straight up wrong lol because that’s not how it works. You can have a bad concept and a good article, execution is what makes or breaks an article. Sure, concept has some basis, but to downvote on a supposedly mediocre concept despite everything else being a “major improvement” is self contradictory.

This is probably the longest liminal space article on site with a lot of different open points, closed plot points (ie Icarus), gimmicks, and details expanded on. Merriam Webster defines basic as “constituting or serving as the basis or starting point,” and as I will point out, this article cannot fall under that definition due to its nature in comparison to the other liminal levels on site. Going off of other articles, a “basic” liminal space level would be a 2 paragraph description about a liminal space with a decent image, an entity, maybe a gimmick if you’re lucky, and that’s it. This, on the other hand, has 4 images, roughly 10 paragraphs, backstory to the M.E.G.’s most well powered and well defended base, a plethora of gimmicks and cool details, and plenty of room to write a setting in. By that definition, it is impossible for this article to be “basic” since, as you said yourself, “this is a major improvement from the previous ones.” Your downvote reason genuinely does not make any sense here.

You could’ve at least… pointed out specific areas you didn’t like and given me suggestions on why you thought this concept wasn’t good but all you did was just make an oxymoronic statement and tell me you didn’t know what the word basic meant and then move on. If you want to give critique that helps the person, don’t just say you don’t like it and move on, offer suggestions, advice, what you wish was/wasn’t in there, the hypothetical state of the article that would constitute an upvote from you. But you did none of that.

If you want to judge it subjectively and just say “you just didn’t like it” then whatever, there’s not much I can say against that or for it. It’s your opinion and you’re entitled to it. But if you’re gonna tell me the article is a major improvement and then turn around and judge it based off of a distorted definition of the word basic without offering even a morsel of advice or actual weighted criticism, then all I can say is 🤷‍♂️.

This article is a major improvement from the previous ones, the writing is better, the concept is…well I'll get to that in a bit but overall I prefer this to 0, 1, or 2. However, I still find myself not enjoying this article to the degree I want to upvote it. I thought about no-voting this article, but ultimately I didn't enjoy this article enough to the point I feel like it might be fair to give it a downvote.

The concept for the most part is basic. Boils down to another dangerous liminal space environment which is brought up by the writing quality. The concept works for a "introductory" article IG but in the end, I want to weigh the early number of articles the same as I would any other on the list.

Is the writing a major improvement compared to other articles? yes. But I don't want to upvote something based purely on writing alone. Concept matters, and this, at least personally, does not do it for me in terms of that.

The hallways are very narrow and enclosed, some even requiring wanderers of average size height and build to have to bend, hunch, crawl, or even walk sideways through them.

Level 3 is one of the largest(?) levels in of The Backrooms. Estimated at around 350 square miles in area (~563 million square kilometers), this presumed size makes it so that sightings of fellow wanderers are scarce when traveling through Level 3. It is recommended that you enter Level 3 only if you are properly prepared to defend yourself from anything which may be lurking in the hallways with you, as it will be is highly unlikely that any aid will come to you, should you need it.

As has been mentioned before, Level 0 and Level 3 share striking similarities, save for their drastically different appearances. An example of this would be the rooms in Level 3, which oftentimes have identifying features wanderers can use as landmarks, much unlike Level 0. One of the more notable examples of this occurrence is that of a set of rusty prison bars, captured in image form by The M.E.G. in the initial exploration of the level in 2012 (see the image attached to the right for reference to regarding the appearance of the bars). Further studies tests have brought to light the fact demonstrated that, no matter what methods were used attempted, the certain bars were unable to be could never be removed or opened, as were nor the walls around them. This occurrence has Such obstructions have made it impossible to traverse certain portions portions of Level 3, so a full mapping of the level cannot be made fully mapped at the present time.

This paragraph has significant content issues. Refer to the meatballs collapsible.

M.E.G. field explorers have pointed out reported that areas where prison bars are present in numerous quantities more numerous tend to instill a higher percentage heightened sense of fear in wanderers. Reports have stated that these effects regions leave wanderers feeling extremely uncomfortable. Wanderers often claim to feel as if they are being watched, and have even reported seeing something looming claimed to see strange figures lurking beyond the bars. The M.E.G. has mostly dismissed these reports concluded that such phenomena are either the result of as hallucinations, or merely rumors.

Other things Electrical or electronic appliances such as breaker boxes, computers, loose wires, security camera monitors, and fluorescent lights, and other such objects and appliances have also been documented.

Level 3, while relatively dangerous, is considered a hotspot for to set up a — supply bases. This is because —Level 3 the level is rich with items resources such as Almond Water, False Outlets, Liquid Pain, Firesalt, Royal Rations, Squirt Guns, and Bottled Lightning.

It is also to be noted that Notably, Level 3 is also the place level in which Wi-Fi in The Backrooms is at its strongest, sitting at a consistent three or four bars instead of fluctuating randomly like in the majority of other places Levels.

— Due to the high amount of valuable resources which can be available in the level, several— Numerous groups have consistently attempted to set up bases in Level 3 in order to make use of its abundant assets. A large proportion of them do not make it past the first few days of being set up however these attempts fail merely days after they are established, as entities can and will attack vulnerable bases that are not prepared for onslaught. As has been demonstrated with a significant amount of other minor groups that have attempted to build bases in the level, one should not take example from them, and not attempt the setting up of a base in this level by yourself. The high failure rate should serve as a warning—do not attempt to settle in Level 3 unless you have the resources, manpower and tenacity to do so.
(Shift this paragraph directly under Bases, Communities and Outposts.)

Level 3 shares many similarities to with Level 2, in such as the fact that the walls are typically lined with pipes. The pipes are far less abundant than those of Level 2, but they can still be found lining the corners of most of the hallways. They are also one of the main sources of noise of Level 3, as The echo of the viscous, black sludge that flows through these pipes is one of the main sources of noise within the Level. them creates several noises which echo through the level. The sludge in question is highly toxic, and emits deadly fumes that cause damage to the body’s nervous system if inhaled, causing as well as 2nd and/or 3rd degree burns upon direct contact with skin to anyone who makes skin contact with the it. Furthermore, studies of the substance have not been able to conclude exactly what it is made of All studies attempting to analyze the chemical composition of the sludge have yielded inconclusive results. only makes studying the sludge in itself harder than it needs to be This in itself poses an obstacle to research on the substance’s properties and potential functions.
(Shift this paragraph up to just between the prison bar paragraph and the electrical room paragraph.)

Long term travel in Level 3 is also made hard due fo the fact that the temperatures in Level 3 are sometimes inhospitable. The abundant machinery within the level causes temperatures to be considerably high at all times uncomfortably warm but generally bearable, with the average temperature varying widely from 66-93°F (~18-33°C). Long-distance travel across Level 3 is made difficult by regions in which the temperature may rise dramatically to become entirely inhospitable, with the highest temperature ever recorded in the level being 135°F (~57°C). The average temperature, unlike the highest recorded one, sits at an uncomfortable but bareable 66-93°F (~18-33°C), which varies depending on location. Reports of damp, thick air have also been documented, which makes the air in some areas where it was observed hard to breathe in difficult to breathe.

The machinery of Level 3 is quite possibly the most dangerous aspect of its ambient environment. The machines found throughout it the level operate anomalously autonomously and without the need for outside external intervention. Wanderers may benefit from useful machinery, or tap into the apparently infinite extranormal supply of electricity powering them. However, the autonomy of these machines also results in a hazardous volatility. , but this autonomously results in it acting unpredictably, and makes it so that maintenance be needed on it, even though it’s unsafe to do so. Because of the latter property Machines often break down require and regular maintenance, which is dangerous since their power supply cannot be turned off by any means. Furthermore, the machines have been known to spontaneously explode of combust on several occasions, which results in several injuries being dealt to wanderers who are unfortunate enough to be in the presence of a malfunctioning machine causing grievous injury to Wanderers unfortunate enough to be in the vicinity. Despite this information however, one is to note that the machinery can be easily avoided if one does not act rashly, and instead scouts out a safe path to travel when **route while traversing the level.
(I apologize for the extensive corrections in these later paragraphs, but the SPaG here has sometimes gotten close to intolerable.)

Level 3 has contains many different dangerous entities present inside of it, which make it difficult to roam without having to encounter a sizable amount of them. It is almost impossible to traverse large distances without encountering them at least once. Hounds, Facelings, Wretches, Male and Female Deathmoths, Skin-Stealers, Dullers, Smilers, Clumps, and Bursters all seem to inhabit this level, preying on anyone unlucky enough to succumb to them. The Crawler Fungus has been reported to **found growing here, along with and the high humidity makes it easy for the Disease to spread easy to catch here as well, so it is you are advised to be wary of your sanitation maintain proper hygiene practices while making your way through the tunnels.

Whilst these entities do not appear at every corner, they their large numbers have have caused many countless casualties among wanderer circles and M.E.G. operatives alike. These entities have even been reported to actively seek out hubs of human activity — particularly minor bases —in hopes of dismantling them and feasting on their occupants. Attacks on The M.E.G.’s M.E.G. Base Gamma are frequent, but often pose little to no threat threat due to the size and defensive capacities of the base in question. Smaller groups, such as the FOJ, have reported difficultly in keeping their outposts intact, and. Many of them have reported almost being completely taken down by the attacks multiple times experienced near or total collapse of their outposts as a result of multiple attacks, along with the constant fear of their safety being jeopardized **and live in constant fear for their safety.

Meatballs

i.e. other issues

Estimated at around 350 square miles in area (~563 million square kilometers)

On one hand, yay metric! On the other hand, there’s no way the numbers are right. I think you meant 350 million square miles?

As mentioned before, Level 0 and Level 3 share striking similarities, save for their drastically different appearances. An example of this would be the rooms in Level 3, which oftentimes have identifying features wanderers can use as landmarks, much unlike Level 0.

This is poorly structured. You say that Level 0 and Level 3 are similar, then immediately go on to talk about how they are different. You don’t really explain how they are similar… I would suggest you at least mention that they are similar in layout, with rooms and corridors.

Another important difference—you would do well to mention that Level 0 is non-Euclidian and spatially desynchronized (Wanderers are forced into isolation and generally can’t meet) while Level 3 doesn’t seem to be.

The machinery of Level 3 is quite possibly the most dangerous aspect of its ambient environment.

I’d like a better explanation of what machinery refers to. Is it miscellaneous industrial or factory machinery without a clearly discernible function? Or are you referring to the electrical appliances and breaker boxes and generators and such that you’ve previously mentioned?

Parmesan
I do appreciate the better details and descriptions, though!
