Hey, Officer. It's been a while since we met.

The old lighthouse casts its spinning beam into the silver-blue dusk, illuminating the darkness that churns beneath its eye. Many a time ago, a traveler had fallen out of reality's grasp and into the waves below. The tides embraced them and gave them a new life atop the lighthouse's overwatch. The now-keeper wades in shallow waters, looking up to a city in the skies.

A stranded officer from another reality. Here, there is neither joy nor sorrow, only years of coastal wind and persistent storms eating away at their body. If every part of a whole lost all that made the original, could it still be called the same being?

Despite everything, are you still yourself?

Tesseract, or 'Tess' for short, is a search and rescue officer stationed atop an old lighthouse, watching out for stranded wanderers. They might've been a seafarer in the past, or simply a traveler gone wayward. Forced to take up residence in unreality, they slowly grew accustomed to the nature of this place, and the oceans that once cushioned their fall became their home. They have made several mechanical alterations to their body to continue their existence, and as of current, they are more machine than human.

Out of universe, Tess is our answer to the question: "What if the TS logo were a cute object head?" Their concept is largely based around the site's theme, including the iconic winged logo. Below, we've highlighted a few key elements of their design.

Ship of Theseus

A simple issue of identity. Tesseract's form is ever-changing, like the flowing tides. The holographic projection inside their head can be swapped out for a variety of images, and the wing blades on their back are versatile, traveling through the air at will. Every component can be disassembled and controlled to suit Tess's needs.

"Like a cliffside, eroded and reconstructed through the ages. From afar, it all looks almost cohesive."

A General History
The colors present on their outfit take after the rainbow version of the icon, with the shirt being white. The belt is chevron-inspired, based on the background wallpaper that accompanies our current theme. The hologram above their right hand is a fun nod to The Backrooms Wiki being a digital project, and in-universe, harkens to their ability to manipulate technology. In this way, the unreal ocean is their domain.

"The seas here aren't liquid; they're lines of solid code. Hush, and listen."

Nautical Dusk
Sundown is a liminal period when the unseen become apparent, as rumored in folklore. Tesseract threads this line between the real and the unreal, showcased through their ‘dimension’ theme. Within their head lies a modified version of our site logo, bent into an impossible structure. Fittingly, Tesseract sees better in the dark than most; with the help of their spyglass, they are able to accomplish their rescue missions with perfect precision.

"They keep a watchful eye on the crashing waves, looking for shadows seeping over the water's surface, wary of an unheard cry for help."

Hii! I'm Index, a dormant member of the wiki and Tesseract's lead designer.

Tess started off as a random idea back in Feb when the idea of having a mascot first came up in TS. They've since changed to something completely different from our original version. It was really fun figuring out the design, and even if we don't win, I'll keep creating for Tess in the future :3

Hi, I'm Lute, an active author and artist on the wiki. I've always been in love with the idea of having a cute mascot for the site, so this contest was like a blessing for me!

I've decided to team up with Index to create a mascot representative of our site culture. Like TS, Tess struggles with change and identity. Even though that our site is made up of people with varying beliefs on what The Backrooms should be, I believe that the answer lies in creating our future together :>
