Writing Blitz 2024

Back into 2019, two users on 4chan came together to create an iconic copypasta that spun off into so many stories, video games, and even a movie. But none of it could have happened without this iconic image:

It was unknown where it came from, until people did some digging and found the original image. From there, a mystery was solved, and we all thought that was the end of it. But today, August 3, 2024, the original owner of the image released the image into the public domain.

This is exciting for us because it means we can use the original image without worrying about legal ramifications of using it or taking someone's hard work without permission.

However…

Not only do we get the original image, but there are 109 other images in the album, some of which have the same liminal vibes. So, as a celebration, the staff team decided to host an impromptu event: the first ever official writing blitz.

Rules:

The goal of this event is for people to write high-quality articles using at least one of the other 109 images (Level 0's image is reserved for Level 0).

This event is NOT a contest. It's just a thing for fun, to encourage people to write something that's connected to our history.

An image from the other 109 may be used by multiple people. You cannot "claim" an image.

You may submit only one article for this event.

Co-authored works are allowed. A co-authored article will count as each author's one allowed submission.

You may coldpost your article.

You may participate with an article that began development prior to the official announcement of the event.

Editing your article after it is posted is allowed, if needed.

You may use the code "roots2024" to post entries for the duration of the event. Use of this code for other coldposts will be met with disciplinary action.

Please tag your entries with "roots2024". All articles tagged as such will automatically show up on this page.

Please set the parent page of your article to this page for the duration of the event by going to + Options > Parent on your page. Staff will remove the parent after the event has ended.

Recommendations:

While you can post as soon as you see this page, it is recommended you still get critique.

Even if someone uses the same image as you, remember that you both may take it in different directions. Encourage your fellow writers.

Posting Period

You have until September 1st to coldpost your page. After that, if you want to post your page, you'll have to go through the regular posting process.

This date is based on "Anywhere on Earth", meaning that if it’s August in any time zone, posting is allowed.
