All the latest Backrooms news of the month!
Greetings flesh persons!
It's me again! Praetor3005! And ReyDay! And Super-Robot14! Here to inform you about everything that happened this month in the Backrooms community because y'all liked the first report!
Since it looks like the site news are here to stay, we would like to know what you want to see there. Any suggestion on what kind of topics can be discussed outside of the news, or maybe something explained more in-depth? Let us know!
Mascot contest!
That's right!
Unlike some of our international sites, we never got a mascot to represent us. So it's now up to you to draw (or vote) for the silly goober you want to see representing the Backrooms Wiki!
This is also the first art contest we are holding on the site, years after the creation of our logo and the discord banner contest that occurred in 2021. This, much like the monthly art features, aims to keep giving our Backrooms artists the place they deserve by granting them a way to create something directly for the site.
You have until Oct 8th to participate, and until Oct 15th to vote on the contestant pages! You can find the hub here. If you are an artist, don't skip your chance to represent the site!
Page of the Week :3
READ THEM.
"Read what?" You may ask. Well, the Page of the Weeks!
"What are those?" You may also ask. Well Page of the Weeks are randomly chosen pages from anywhere on our site. New or old.
"But why are you doing this, Super-Robot14?" Because we want to encourage everyone to read our site diversly. The Page of the Weeks are to show of everything the site has to offer. The good, the "less good, boring 'ol 2020 pages", or even the "bad". It could be the new, or the old. Really just really anything (no tech pages, sadge).
So far, the Page of the Weeks have been:
So go read them! A new one is released every Sunday (when on Sunday? Whenever I feel like it :3) and we highly encourage you to discuss what's good and bad about them. Do you like this new Page of the Week? Why or why not? Tell me about it, I'll be happy to discuss!
Critathon!
On September 16th, we started a Critathon for the first time in a while! We got 17 entries, 3 of which were posted this month!
For those of you wondering, Critathon is when the GLMP opens up a forum post in the discord server for articles to be submitted! These articles will then be reviewed and will receive concept critique from someone in the GLMP, along with critics who decide to participate as well!
Thanks to these folks for providing critique:
Want to join in the next Critathon? You’re in luck! Red-eyes Dragoon is hosting a one-man Critathon for Promptcon in the discord server! Feel free to ask him about it to learn more. :3
Tumblr Ressurection
Thanks to the almighty BlueSignet, our Tumblr account has come back from the dead!
There you will find posts by staff promoting pages or responding to questions from our readers.
If you are interested, make sure to check it from this adress:
Feel free to use the "ask us" feature to ask some questions to the staff or to the authors! We will gladly answer you.
Deletion Threshold III: Revenge of the authors
As a result of numerous debates and polls and arguing and proposals, us staff folks have decided that we need to lower the threshold a bit. Instead of pages needing to have a rating of +15 to stay on the site(with the exception of tales), your page only needs +10 to stay on the site. Tales are remaining at +10 as well. On top of that, a page needs to have 3 downvotes at least in order to be deleted. Happy posting, folks!
the system is, of course, still being monitored, and further changes in either direction are still possible depending on how it goes.
Upgrades, people, upgrades!
There have been a number of changes and improvements to the site over the past month, most of which are technical, though there are some regarding page rewrites. These include:
- Two brand new tags! Levels can now use the settlement tag if they have a base, outpost, or community of some sort. Objects can use the liquid tag if they are or heavily involve liquid. Any bug-like or creepy crawly entites can use the insectoid tag! Got a silly lil machine entity? Use the mechanical tag!
- How Many Pages has had a few technical changes to make the count more accurate. Yippee!
- Robert Goerman and DivineAtlas are rewriting Level 0 as a community project! To participate in all of this awesome collaboration, check out the forum post or keep an eye out for Goerman in the discord server!
- A number of AI images have been replaced with renders done by none other than the wonderful SilverFaust! Thank you SO much for all of these incredible pieces. We are slowly getting closer and closer to getting AI completely off the site! Friendly reminder that if you find a replacement for any non-CC or AI images(lists: non-CC AI), please put them in the discord server or the community forum using the proper format!
Author Poll on Passive Collaboration
Passive Collaboration is a term showcasing when authors are deliberately using works from other people in their own, either to expand it or to make theirs feel more cohesive in the universe. We asked authors if and why they tend to do this, and it they avoided it, why.
The reasons can actually be quite different from author to author, but the common denominator is an interest in the linked work, whether it is only one page or a wider background.
Some authors like to include other works in order to make their own articles more intertwined within the big rabbit hole that is the wiki, allowing for the universe to feel interacting and cohesive (for example Level 206 - "Bones of Bones" by Greggita Mahayfaio, with the many small mentions making the universe feel alive).
Others want to feature works they appreciate for people to discover and enjoy them as a result, giving new opportunities to readers (for example The Lost Hall Society in Level 5.3 - "Promethei Bibliotheca" by Praetor3005).
Finally, authors can include works of other writers to sublime their own writing, by adding elements that either spark creativity (for example Entity 67 - "Partygoers", by Robert Goerman revolving around the Phobic Centipede), or by adding more relevancy or potential to the page (for example the many destinations showcased in Phenomenon 18 - "The Infinite Wanderer" by LiminalDoctor).
However, some authors also stated why they might not passively collaborate as much as others. Since usually, mentioning or using other pages is tied to interest gathered after reading such articles, it can be harder for newer authors or people sticking to specific themes to mention other works. The other difficulty can be to avoid disrespecting the original author's vision and storyline in their writing, as it is not always possible to communicate with each other. Fortunately, elements such as the search features of the wiki, as well as events such as pages of the wiki, help cover such difficulties.
Ultimately, passive collaboration narrows down to interest, both from the writer, as their appreciation of a topic or article can make them develop it, but also as a reader, by discovering new pages that might spark creativity.
Staff and GLMP updates!
This month, we got a new greenlighter, our beloved DivineAtlas! You can find their availability on the greenlight policy as usual
But that's not it! We also got two returning staff members in the team, CamaradeAlbabar and Praetor3005 (on est tellement de backretour). Whatsmore, we also saw the promotion of LiminalDoctor to moderator, thanks to their activity in staff. We look forward to show us what we are working on in the near future!
Featured pages - Field, Cave, Wanderers and Void
This month, new and old authors alike delight us with pages exploring many different aspects of the wiki:
We also have updated our art features! This month is oriented towards site mascots, but there is much more than just this!
- Ambersight's version of a wiki mascot featured on the wiki in February
- An art of Maurice and "little shit" from Phenomenon 25, drawn by litterbug
- A dreadful render by sderbz
- The return of Kennith in Level 0 by kennith
- Sketches of Fia, one of the mascotcon entries by ReyDay
- A partygoer swimming in the Poolsrooms by DumbYellowBastard
Want to see them? Pay the Featured Art Archive a visit!
If you want to have a chance to see your art being featured, you can post in the backrooms-art channel of our discord server!
That's it for this month, but October is starting big already! Make sure to check the two news events, Backtober and Promptcon! Whether you are an artist or a writer, there is a lot you can do this month already, so good luck and have fun!
orte
I think something that would be cool for future Backrooms reports is having little stats section saying how many new levels, tales, entities etc have been added to the site in the last month
Agree
Not sure if we would have enough pages to do stats with but that's something we can try indeed
I like how Morte is in the banner
we've had a good month
since when was the deletion threshold so high, I though it was just needed to be positive to stay up
does anyone see these forum signatures, also why does this have more space than the description
It changed at the start of June and got tweaked over time.
Morte for PM
there is a wiki called the backrooms wiki, and its a glorious wiki, although it has its issues, I am proud to be a part of it, it stands for variety, it stands for creativity, and it stands for quality. one of the only backrooms wikis where levels like level 23, level 246 and level 37 can co exist! long live the backrooms wiki. the backrooms wiki, 2020-2024.
I love the Backrooms Report. No disrespect intended, but it gives me the nostalgia of my high school journalism class and school newspaper. It oozes excitement and belonging! Please keep up the great work. Thank you.
Your friend and colleague,
Goerman

Thanks a lot! I am glad you like them
The idea is surprisingly fresh, especially for a wiki site with so many unique articles. It's a page well done.
-The infamous radioactive piece of bread.
This is so cool! Keep up the good work! No, great work! No, even better, the amazing work! You get my point, right? Hehe, I just really like this idea, that's all.
