It's that time of the year again, which means it's time for our second annual Holiday Gift Exchange! The rules are pretty different this year than they were last year, so please read through everything even if you were here for last year's event.
Overview
What is this?:
This Holiday Gift Exchange is an event that we totally didn't steal the idea for from SCP where each user makes a request for both a piece of visual art and a written article. Then they are assigned to someone else, and get to pick to either make the visual art request or the written article request. This is a secret santa type thing, so you won't know who's giving you a gift until they post it.
Is this a contest?:
Nope! This is just an event that we're doing for fun!
How can I sign up?:
Simply make a post in this thread with the following format:
Remember, if you sign up, you have to make something for someone else, so only make a post in this thread if you are willing to make something for this event. Since this is supposed to be a surprise, the person fulfilling your request will not be able to contact you, so please be clear with your requests. Also, please don't put "Anything" under any of the request sections—we want to give the authors and artists some guidance for what to make.
Do I have to include both a writing request and an art request?:
Yes. Someone will be assigned to you randomly, and since some participants in the contest will be primarily writers, and some will be primarily artists, there needs to be an option for everyone.
What if I don't finish something by the deadline?:
Try to finish your gift by the deadline, but if you have to post a few days or even a few weeks late, that's okay!
How will it be decided who people are writing for?:
Staff will determine who everyone is assigned to randomly. We will then contact all participants via their preferred contact message.
What if I need to contact someone about the specifics of their gift?:
It's supposed to be a surprise, so you shouldn't contact the person you're assigned to personally, but if you need some clarification or some more information about the request, you can always have a friend or a staff member contact the person you're assigned to on your behalf.
Will I need a greenlight to post a written entry?:
Greenlights will not be required for written entries in this event, but it is still highly recommended that you get some form of critique on your written entries so that you can make your gift the best it can be.
How do I share my gift?:
Written entries can be posted to the site with the tag "gift2021" (though posting to the site is not mandatory). You can share your gifts by either contacting them through wikidot or discord, or by responding to their comment on this thread.
Dates:
Times and dates for this event will be based on UDT.
