have to give it a -1 because this doesn't fit in the backrooms. it feels more like it came from the dark soul games rather then a dimension with liminal spaces
Alright, seeing this comment I feel obligated to respond to this.
There is no wiki standard for things to fit into "the backrooms". But, likely that doesn't matter as this is your own personal standard. So, I am going to present an argument as to why things shouldn't be downvoted because they don't "fit in with the backrooms"
Firstly, lets start with the topic of liminal spaces. Mainly, that the classification of liminal space is practically meaningless.
the general definition of a liminal space is, and I quote
Any physical place that serves as a connecting place between two places is a liminal space. For instance, corridors connecting two rooms are liminal spaces. Streets, roads, airports, train and bus stations connecting two destinations are liminal spaces. So are hallways, stairs, and elevators.
multiple other sources contain similar definitions. for instance, here is the dictionary definition of liminal.
of, relating to, or being an intermediate state, phase, or condition
(https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/liminal)
The definition here says the same thing, simply in a different context. A liminal space, based on the dictionary definition of these two words, is a point that leads to another point.
Based on this definition, you are technically correct. This is not a liminal space. But what makes the backrooms itself a liminal space?
The backrooms is not a point between two other places. This is heavily conveyed through lots of writing. The backrooms is a place outside of common reality. That doesn't make it liminal.
Well, it wouldn't, if it weren't for the way liminal is used online.
The concept of a liminal space online takes a different form compared to the dictionary definition. Liminal spaces, nowadays, is usually used as a term to describe an area that gives a certain emotion, usually nostalgia with a little bit of spookiness.
But has it ever actually been defined? is there a concrete definition for what a "liminal space" means on the internet?
here is the fandom definition for a liminal space
Liminal Spaces are described as any area that's large and empty. The most common liminal spaces are almost always of hallways, or commonly visited locations such as the halls in malls, gas stations, neighborhoods, and as previously stated, hallways. An image does not need to be completely empty to be described as liminal, there can be singular objects, empty bookshelves, lights, etc. To be in a liminal space means to be on the verge of something new but not exactly be there yet.
This is directly contradictory to other definitions of a liminal space.
The point I'm trying to make here is that a "liminal space" is an ever-shifting word that can mean wildly different things based on whether its used in an academic or backroomsy context. the word isn't meaningless, but its definition can easily be shifted in different ways.
Now, it is technically valid to use the word as a way to criticize something. Its a descriptor that has assigned meaning which can easily be gleamed.
But, the definition is still inconsistent, which moves me on to my next point.
Secondly, what qualifies something as a liminal is subjective in of itself
liminal spaces often are meant to invoke a feeling of nostalgia or deja-vu. But, not everything will for all people. For example, imagine you grew up in a big city and never visited the country for your entire life. Would you find a big empty field nostalgic if you had never seen it? probably not.
or, imagine you grew up in the USA and never left the country. Would you find a level meant to invoke the nostalgia of another country's landscape nostalgic? again, likely not. If its not something that was in your past, you may find it missing certain aspects which make something liminal.
And that's not getting into even things the wiki does. Liminal space images are often devioid of people and animals or other things. But on most wikidot levels, aside from level 0, other entities can be found. Do these still count as liminal spaces? Most people would say yes, but a liminal purist might say "it's not liminal unless its deviod of life"
It's all subjective. Concrete definitions can often be up to interpretation based on what one personally thinks is liminal.
so, is it really a good criticism of the article?
Third, you mention that it doesn't fit with the backrooms.
but, what does that mean?
Genuinely, what does it mean for something to "fit with the backrooms"
You wrote this on July 12th, 2022. That was two days ago.
So, this isn't something that can be really written off as an older perspective.
let me pull up a few articles.
second most popular level on the site. Does this "fit with the backrooms?" seems like most people think so
second most popular entity on the site. There is nothing liminal about this. Seems like most people still think it fits within the backrooms.
this is literally the most popular entity on site. There is nothing liminal about it.
In conclusion, Something not "fitting into the backrooms" is not a valid reason for downvoting and is pretty much completely meaningless.
There we go, there's my essay on why you shouldn't downvote pages because they dont fit into the backrooms

A LOT of people will make the argument that certain stories don't match a theme. I'm not one of those people, and I generally think It's terrible argument to make when its comes to the backroom stories.
What a story really needs is details, a hook, good writing, and in interesting story. This is something that I believe level 73 provides.
