no reason, but i headcanon these guys to have an extremely dark sense of humor, and that them atacking wanderers is just "a little trolling"
We do a little bit of action that is called “trolling” against the other homo sapiens which call themselves “Wanderer’s.” We find this act to be extremely helpful for our serotonins to be more active in our controlling part in our head called “Brain.”

Yeah, taking a poor wanderer's life that they could've lived at any other safe level is definitely just a tiny bit of wackiness for us smilers!
i always had a thought that what if there were opposite entities called frowners who love the light and are helpful to humans and have a rivalry with smilers.
The image of the smiler kinda crosses the line between “stupid” and “terrifying” quite well. +1

Man, my favorite part of the articles was the Behaviors section where it warns you of Smilers that say 'It's Morbin' Time', was really a wake-up call to what these things could do
I feel like they should be more predatory rather than only attack if you panic, retreat, or if a loud noise is made
This article may be a classic, but is definitely outdated and needs a rewrite to keep up with newer entities.
