Classicon2023

Classic Contest 2023

We have come a long way from the times of the wiki's creation, since then our users have provided countless incredible format-screws, and the newer categories of PoIs and Phenomena have made room for some of our site's best pages. This, however, has meant that over time the articles that initially built the foundation of our wiki have been left to the sidelines, so, with the purpose of changing that, we present you: Classicon2023.

Rules:

  • The goal of this contest is for people to create high-quality pages that resemble the foundational pages that initiated the Backrooms. In order to ensure so, only normal levels, entities, and objects are allowed to be posted as entries of this contest. (You may not participate with an enigmatic entity or level.)
  • To maintain the simplicity of older articles, only standalone pages with no direct involvement to broader plot lines will be allowed as contest entries.
  • You may submit only one article for this contest.
  • You may participate with an article that began development prior to the official announcement of the contest.
  • The score of each article will be based purely on their rating at the end of the voting period.
  • Editing your articles after they are posted is allowed, if needed.
  • Contest entries will not require greenlights to be posted, even if you do not normally have a greenlight exemption.
  • You may use the code "classicon2023" to post entries for the duration of the contest. Use of this code for other coldposts will be met with disciplinary action.
  • Any attempts to give yourself an unfair advantage will result in disqualification. What counts as this will be decided by staff on a case-by-case basis. If you aren't sure if something counts as this, please ask staff.
  • All entries must be posted during the designated "Posting Period". Any articles posted before or after this period will not count as entries in the contest.
  • Please tag your entries with "classicon2023". All articles tagged as such will automatically show up on this page.
  • Please set the parent page of your article to this page for the duration of the contest by going to + Options > Parent on your page. Staff will remove the parent after the voting period has ended.
  • The top 3 winners will each get to pick an article in the December feature cycle. An additional feature may be added if there is a tie. If no such tie exists, the author(s) of the 4th highest ranked article of the contest will get to pick the 4th feature.
  • Collaborative works are allowed; if a collaborative work wins, the collaborators will pick the feature together. A collaborative article will count as each collaborator's one allowed submission.

Recommendations:

  • Though it is not required, the usage of clinical tone is recommended.
  • The inclusion of horror and loneliness themes is encouraged, but not mandatory.
  • The involvement of major groups (such as the M.E.G. or the B.N.T.G.) in your article is discouraged.
  • Full format-screws are also discouraged.

Dates

  • September 25th - October 22nd (4 weeks) — The Writing Period: During this time, no articles may be posted, but you should work on writing and perfecting your articles.
  • October 23rd - November 5th (2 weeks) — The Posting Period: During this time, all articles submitted for the contest will be posted. You may still work on writing during this period.
  • November 6th - November 19th (2 weeks) — The Voting Period: During this time, no more articles may be posted. This period exists so that articles that are added later can still rack up points.
  • November 20th — End of the contest: Winners will be announced. The winners' articles of choice will be featured in the home page on December 1st as the features of the month of November.

All contest dates are based on "Anywhere on Earth", meaning that if the Posting Period is active in any time zone, posting is allowed.

One Final Word of Advice

Remember that this contest is just for fun. It's okay to be a little competitive, but don't let it get to the point where it lessens your or someone else's enjoyment of the contest.
